Steaven (Steve) Gordon Cahill passed away May 12, 2025, at the age of 75 in Havre, Montana. Steve was born June 30, 1949, in Martinez, California, to Gordon Stanley Cahill and Irene Lorraine Frye. He was the second oldest child of five. A few years later they moved to Homedale, Idaho. Homedale was his hometown growing up. He attended school there and played basketball and football for a while. He worked at the family business and flagged for crop dusters. He was selected for the draft and enlisted in the Navy. He served two years during the Vietnam War, stationed stateside at Alameda Naval Base in California.
When he returned home, he married Kathy Elaine Copley on November 13, 1971. They had their first child, Stanley Steaven Cahill, in May of 1973. Six years later, they had Tonya Irene Cahill in April 1979. Two years later, Julie May Cahill in March 1981.
He worked for the J.R. Simplot company until he retired.
In August of 1991, he lost his wife and youngest daughter in a terrible car accident. He married twice more, to Charlene Wilks on August 7, 1992. She passed away in 2002. He later married Diane Williford on June 25, 2011. She passed away in 2017.
He moved to Havre, Montana, in November of 2022, where he resided till his passing.
Steve had a personality that drew people in. He was kindhearted and would help anyone if he could. He enjoyed fishing and camping. Some of his favorite fishing trips were out on the ocean. He would hike to hot springs for a good soak, and clothes were optional. He enjoyed traveling and exploring new areas. He loved Boise State football and basketball games. He had the opportunity to attend some NASCAR races and really enjoyed that time.
Family was important to him. And throughout the years he enjoyed many adventures with his grandkids and great-grandkids. Steve was a very social person and would talk to everyone. His sense of humor was quick to pop up when you least expected it.
In his last few years, he struggled with several health issues, resulting in a feeding tube being placed. There were home health aides to help him, and as he got to know them, they found not only a sense of humor but also a mischievous nature. They started calling him “Dennis the Menace,” and so he named his feeding tube “Mr. Wilson.” His outlook on things kept him pushing on. His Angelcare and Hospice teams became family to all of us and really helped to lighten the strain of his final months.
Steve was preceded in death by three wives, his parents, older sister Linda Salutregui, younger brother Alan Cahill, and a granddaughter, Britany Montoya. He is survived by his son Stanley Cahill (Dawn Cahill), daughter Tonya Carreon (Gus Carreon), sister Jackie Smith (Gary Smith), and brother Tab Cahill. As well as ten grandkids (spouses) and eleven great-grandkids, with one more due next month that he was really looking forward to.
