Dorsey Bruce Wheeler, 79, of Caldwell, Idaho, passed away of natural causes on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, in Nampa.
Dorsey was born on September 22, 1945, in Preston, Idaho, to Melva Elouise Bosen and Lee Wilson Wheeler. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Weber State University and began his career as a passionate music educator, teaching band and orchestra for three years at North Cache Jr. High and Skyview High School. He also pursued graduate studies in school administration at Utah State University.
Fifty-five years ago, Dorsey took a leap of faith by purchasing a small music store in Caldwell, Idaho. That store grew into the well-known Dorsey Music, which now has locations in Boise, Nampa, and Ontario, Oregon. A lifelong entrepreneur and musician, Dorsey never officially retired—working with the same dedication until the day he passed.
In 1976, he married Kellie Wright of Boise. The two shared a deep bond and a love of music, performing together in several bands over the years, including Dorsey & Double Image. Dorsey's passion for music, education, and community left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Beyond music and business, Dorsey had a playful spirit and loved spending time with his family across all generations. He especially enjoyed board games, video games, and pinochle, often gathering with kids, grandkids, and anyone willing to join in the fun. His sense of humor and competitive streak made game nights a cherished tradition.
