Calvin Earl Newby, at the young age of 57, passed away on May 19, 2015 in the comfort of his own home surrounded by his loved ones in Kuna, Idaho. He courageously lived with and fought cancer for 5 years. He is the cherished husband of Joan Lucille Newby. Joan and Calvin were married April 14, 1979 in the Logan Utah LDS temple. Side by side, they shared 36 exquisite years of marriage, four children, and ten grandchildren together. Born in Nampa, Idaho, he was the son of Verna and Alan Newby. He graduated from Kuna High School in 1976, and was very involved in his school and sports. He loved wrestling, attending school events and was voted Most School Spirit. Calvin went on to serve twenty years in the United States Air Force. During that time the family served and lived in Utah, Turkey, Spokane, two tours in Japan, Florida, Idaho and after his years of military service he worked in Kuna, Idaho as a medic. Calvin belonged to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The restored Gospel was his most treasured belief in life. In his short but full life, Calvin valiantly served two LDS missions lasting a total of four years. One mission as a young man in the Montana Billings Mission during 1977-1979. In the years of 2006-2008, he served his second mission alongside his beloved wife on Christmas Island. He continued to be a missionary and disciple of Jesus Christ his entire life. Calvin had an infectious joy for life and lived it to his fullest. After realization of his shortened time here on earth, Calvin became focused on his "bucket list". He went sky- diving, Rocky Mountain climbing, rode a (mechanical) bull named Fu Man Chu, and traveled all over North America, Asia Australia and Europe visiting temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -day Saints. In Calvin's words, "I'm not dying of cancer; I'm living with cancer." He mingled his love of travel with his zeal for the Gospel as he did service in a total of 100 temples around the world for over 38 years. Using sheer determination and borrowed strength from the Lord, he extended his life to fulfill his goal and attended his 100th temple in Frankfurt, Germany. He passed away just two weeks after returning home. Being a traveler, he enjoyed learning about other cultures and meeting people all over the world. In his final days and the days after, it has been remarkable for his family to see the outpouring of love from those he has influenced for good. Calvin will be remembered for his kind and loving nature to all who entered his life. People say that he "never knew a stranger". He was very fond of listening to music, going to the movies, and he loved cracking a good joke. His grandchildren, and children all over the world, will remember his uncanny impersonation of Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, and Goofy. Everything Calvin did he did with a smile on his face and a cheerful disposition. His motto was, "We are positive!" We love you Calvin. God be with you till we meet again. You are home. Calvin is survived by his wife Joan Whiteley Newby; his children: Logan (Erica) Newby, Jason (Jessica) Newby, Skyler (Maddi) Newby, and Kindra (Tyler) McAllister; 10 grandchildren: Regan, Addison, Ryder, Avery, Jordyn, Lincoln, Lundon, Ashton, Jake and unborn baby girl; four siblings: Joe Newby, Christy (Rod) Warfield, Debbie (Tom) Goff, and Richard (Dawndee) Newby.
