John Michael Vietti Jr

John Michael Vietti Jr. passed away in his home on Monday, February 7, 2022, due to complications from a chest infection. John, who went by Mike, was born on September 29th, 1952, in Pomona, California, to Parents John and Anne Vietti. He grew up in Pomona, and attended Gary High School, where he made several lifelong friends. Mike enlisted in the United States Army, with his parents' permission, at the age of 17, so he could serve his country in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged and went on to work outdoors as a tree trimmer, and in the construction field. Mike loved playing and pitching slow pitch baseball with his team SNAFU, where he received most valuable player. He loved playing horseshoes and golf. Mike perfected the art of Deep Pit Barbecuing and hosted many memorable deep pit barbecues with family and good friends. Mike eventually landed roots in Idaho and loved its beauty! He dealt with physical pain from life's adventures, but it never stopped him from moving, going, and smiling through it. He loved being outdoors, and in his later years he was a landscaper. He was proud of 'digging his hands in the dirt, with the sun on my face', as he would say. Mike's smile was constant and infectious. He always had music in the background, loud music. If you didn't hear him coming with his music announcing his arrival, then you knew he was around when he belted out his famous yell. He lived life to the fullest, unafraid, happy go lucky, and beat to his own drum. He was known as crazy Mike by his friends, and by his family he was known as Dad, Unk Mike, or Grandpapa. He is survived by his children Monica & Robert Lee, and John & Cecily Vietti; sisters and brothers: Kaye & David Cooper, Nancy & Chuck Gray, and Theresa Carroll; grandchildren: Jackie Phillips, Morgan Monson, Sam Monson, Jessily Vietti, and Tanis Vietti;, along with several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews whom he was very close to, and loved them fiercely. A 'Mike style' celebration of life will be held later this year in the summertime.
