Barbara Jean Rich passed away peacefully in Nampa, Idaho on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 surrounded by her family at the age of 71. She was born on March 5, 1951 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Leslie Alfred Smith and Joan Gail Simmons Smith. Her childhood residences were Rose Park and Brigham City, Utah. Barbara continued her schooling at Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho where she met her future husband Michael Thomas Rich. After completing a year of college, they moved to Nampa, Idaho in the summer of 1971. They were quickly blessed with four children over the next four years. As the children grew older, she decided to go to work for the Nampa School District. Throughout her life, Barbara held several positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved to serve her family, friends, and members of her ward. In recent years, Barbara struggled with various illnesses, but she remained a bright light to everyone around her. Her family would like to thank the staff at St. Alphonsus Nampa and Cascadia of Caldwell and Nampa for all their care and support. Barbara is survived by her husband of 51 years, Michael Rich; her children: Christopher (Kimberly) Rich of Melba, ID, Brian (Brandi) Rich of Nampa, ID, Joanna (Shane) Rich of Nampa, ID, Corey (Anna) Rich of Nampa, ID; her brother Les (Jill) Smith of Perry, UT; several loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Leslie Smith and Joan Huston, and step-father Raymond Huston. Funeral services, under the direction of Zeyer Funeral Chapel, will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 18463 Northside Blvd., Nampa, ID 83687. A viewing will be held that morning from 10-10:45 AM at the Church prior to the services. Interment will follow at Kohlerlawn Cemetery, 76 6th Street N. in Nampa.
