Kenneth Raymond Luther

Kenneth R. Luther passed into the loving arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ on June 20, 2022 after a hard fight with Interstitial Lung Disease. He was born on December 9, 1950 in Sacramento, California to Roy and Lola Luther. Growing up he lived in several states including Alaska, which he loved to share stories about. He was never much for enjoying school because he was very smart and got bored easily. He joined the Army in February of 1968 at the age of 17. He turned 18 in Germany and 19 in Viet Nam. He built bridges just to have to blow them up so the enemy couldn't use them. He could die for his country but when he came home he couldn't vote or buy a beer. That always bothered him as the military gave the soldiers free beer as part of their rations. Ken joined the Idaho Army National Guard in 1970 where he proudly served for over 18 years. He co-owned a drywall business with his father for a number of years. They built many apartments and condos in the Boise and McCall areas. Ken went on to become a long haul truck driver, working for several trucking firms hauling everything from "Dirty Dirt" to lumber to food products. His last and favorite job was with WinCo Foods delivering food and staples to stores in Idaho and the surrounding states. During his career he earned many awards. He was extremely proud to be a member of the Five Million Miles Accident Free Club. Ken made many lifelong friends along the way that have kept in contact throughout his fight with ILD. Ken loved the Lord and was an Ordained Minister which was a surprise to some of his old friends that knew him as a biker, bar bouncer and partier. Which only goes to show you what God can do. He was a hunter and a fisherman from an early age. He loved to talk about his many adventures. He also took numerous friends and family members on these trips introducing them to the sports. Ken married Kathy Banta in 1972 and to this union a daughter, Robin, was born. He married LaRita Vanetti in 1980 and they had a son, Waylon. He married Debbie Elliott, the love of his life in April 1994 and gained another son, Corey Elliott. They loved each other through thick and thin with the last few years being the hardest. Due to changes that Covid-19 pneumonia did to his lungs, it advanced Ken's ILD faster then what was expected. However, we always knew that when the Lord called him home he would meet Him with open arms and hear Him say, "Well done my good and faithful son." Ken is survived by his loving wife Debbie; daughter Robin (Matt) Tanner of Salmon Idaho; son Corey Elliott and grand daughter Sirrah Elliott (Brandon Brugman) of Arizona; sister Candice (Bob) Comstock of Libby, Montana; sister Janice (Pete Henriqez) Gomez of Boise; and many, many more friends and family members. He was preceded in death by his son Waylon R. Luther; both of his parents Roy and Lola Luther; his mother and father in-laws Violet Jean Helm and John W. Elliott. We would like to thank the staff of Treasure Valley Hospice for their loving care of Ken these last few months. Nurse Amy for being able to convince Ken to take his meds, etc. and Erin for giving him gentleness and respect with his bathing needs. Love all you guys. If you would like to make a donation in Ken's name, he asked them to go to the Disabled American Veterans in Boise or the Nampa American Legion which he was a member of both. Services will be at 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 25 at the Nampa Christian Center, 1423 2nd St. South in Nampa. A viewing will be held from 2:30-4:30 on Friday, June 24 at Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N. Midland Blvd. in Nampa.
