Bruce F. Munk of Boise Idaho passed away Sunday, August 13, 2023, at the age of 74. He will be tremendously missed by all who knew him.Bruce lived his life to the absolute fullest. It didn't matter that he was dealing with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) for 20 years. He went out biking almost every day, hiking, fishing, camping, canoeing, skiing, bird watching and in general just enjoying this beautiful creation we call Earth. However, eventually, he lost his battle with leukemia and was called home to our Father in Heaven. In his early years, Bruce developed a love of music and learned to play guitar. It was a talent he shared and enjoyed throughout his life. He played in a number of local rock bands. He and his groups played regularly at night clubs and gatherings, but it was playing French horn in the marching band where he met a beautiful young woman on the drill team, Mari Christensen. Bruce and Mari dated for several years before getting married on June 1, 1970. They were later sealed together in the Boise Idaho Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day SaintsHe was drafted into the US Army a few short months after getting married and he served three years active duty, including two years in Germany. It was in the army that he was trained as an X-ray technologist. This training led to his years of study and work in the field of radiology. He earned his bachelor's degree from Idaho State University (1978) and a Master's Degree in Adult Education and Counseling--MEd from the College of Idaho (1984). He worked for a number of hospitals in the greater Boise area and retired after 19 years as the Director of Diagnostic Services, at West Valley Medical Center in Caldwell.Bruce was and is a valiant son of God. He loved people and served them every chance he had. Much of his time was spent serving in the Scouting program. He believed in and lived the values taught by the Boy Scouts. Nothing made him happier than to teach young men of their duty to God and country and to have respect for the great outdoors. Many young boys received their Eagle Scout awards, including his two sons and two of his grandsons because of his guidance and encouragement. He even received some of the Scouting program's highest honors like the Scouter of Merit Award, and Silver Beaver Award and was inducted into the Scouting Hall of Fame in 2017. He also understood his "Duty to God." He selflessly and joyfully served as Bishop of the 16th Ward in Boise for five years, as well as many other callings before and long after that. If there was ever a need, he filled it.Bruce was preceded in death by both his parents, Fredrick and IdaMay Munk. He is survived by his best friend, high school sweetheart, and wife of 53 years, Mari Munk; his sons Christian Munk (Ruth), and Ryan Munk (Shilo); and his daughter Heidi Sears (Jonathan); as well as his two younger brothers Loren Munk (Kate) and Gerald Munk (Karen). He was also the proud grandfather to six amazing grandchildren: Palmer Sears (Abigail) and Caleb Sears, Logan Munk, Jordan Munk, Adalyn Munk, and Liam Munk.A funeral service to honor and celebrate Bruce's life will be held on August 21, 2023, at 12:00pm at The church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 6711 W Northview St. in Boise. There will be a visitation at 10:30am prior to the services. Graveside services will be the following day, August 22, 2023 at 9:40am at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, 10100 N.
