Eric Ritchie Child, 70, of Meridian, Idaho died Friday, January 4, 2019 after a long battle with rheumatoid arthritis and kidney disease. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 12, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 3451 N. Locust Grove Rd in Meridian with a viewing at the Church from 9 to 9:45 a.m. prior to the services. Services will be conducted by Bishop Bryan Hall. Arrangements are under the direction of Zeyer Funeral Chapel of Nampa. (208-467-7300). Eric was born to Rex and Vivian Child on May 15, 1948 in Boise, Idaho. He was the youngest of four children. His siblings are still living except his oldest sibling Anthony. He attended school in Kuna, Idaho and graduated from Kuna High School.He served a two year mission for the Church from 1967 to 1969 in the Northern Indian Mission which covered six states and to Eric was the best mission and jewel of the church. His first nine months were spent serving on the Pine Ridge Reservation with the Oglala Sioux Tribe in South Dakota. Later he served the Hunkpapa Sioux Tribe. Upon returning he attended and graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Animal Science.During the summer of 1974 he met and courted Andrea Bowers of Tempe, Arizona. They were married in the Manti Utah LDS Temple on November 1, 1974. They resided in Kuna on an 80 acre farm they purchased, where Eric farmed, raised cattle, sheep and owned and managed Basin Fertilizer and Seed. During these years he was actively involved in the Owyhee Cattleman's Association. He retired from working for St. Luke's Hospital in their Information Department.Eric was active in the Church all of his life. He enjoyed being of service to others through his callings in the Church.Eric was preceded in death by his wife Andrea; and survived by his children: Will (Rani) Child, Emily Child, Tai (Tom) Smith, and Tiffany (Scott) Goff; and by 7 grandchildren whom he loved spending time with and having them explore the farm.Eric has reunited with Andrea, whom he loved dearly. He has joined again with his parents and oldest brother Anthony. He will be missed by his children; grandchildren; extended family, friends, members of his ward and past co-workers.
