Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Son and Friend Ray Stewart Thacker, 69, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in his home on Friday, October 21, 2016. He was born July 10, 1947 in Montpelier, Idaho. He is the second son of Oral J. and Edith Stewart Thacker. He married the love of his life Janet G. Nowland on August 22, 1969 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple for time and all eternity. He showed his great love and dedication to the Lord through a lifetime of faithful service from a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in North Germany when he was 19 to his final calling as patriarch to the Caldwell East Stake. He held many leadership positions including bishop to congregations in Clovis, New Mexico and Moses Lake, Washington, counselor in the Stake Presidency of the Caldwell, Idaho East Stake and a variety of callings in the temple where he loved serving. His lifelong service to the church has been a great example to everyone that knew him. He loved those around him and did his best to serve and help them. He had the natural ability to reach out to people and brighten their day. Most importantly, he loved his family! He was always up for fun and took every opportunity to spend family time together. It was important to him to attend sporting events, baptisms, graduations, baby blessings and all other milestones in his children's and grandchildren's lives. The memories he leaves will be treasured always. He is survived by his eternal companion Janet; mother-in-law Ovena Nowland; five daughters and two sons: Robyn (Brian) Jarvis, Jon (Tiffany) Thacker, Jenifer (Darrin) Child, Tami (Brett) Simpson, Kristi (Mike) Lewis, Kim Thacker (Dad's going to help Kim fill this spot) and Brad (Kalaina) Thacker; 20 grandchildren: Trevor Jarvis, JD Thacker, Jared Thacker, Zachary Jarvis, Bridger Child, Cody Thacker, Megan Jarvis, Teagin Child, Rylee Lewis, Aaron Thacker, Brooklyn Lewis, Gage Child, Brayden Thacker, Jarron Simpson, Beckom Lewis, Kathryn Thacker, Jaxon Simpson, Kapri Thacker, Presley Lewis and Beckett Thacker; three brothers and one sister: Ronald (Carolyn) Thacker, Carolyn (Harold) Dimond, Kelvin (Dorothy) Thacker and Evan (Monica) Thacker; two sisters-in-law Sandy Sinks (Dale) Hougaard and Cheryl (Larry) Kruzie; and an even larger extended family. He was preceded in death by his twin sons Michael Ray and Steven Ray; parents Jim and Edith Thacker; father-in-law James L. Nowland; brother Randy L. Thacker and brother-in-law Kenneth D. Sinks; nieces and nephew: Stephanie Thacker, Donny Dimond and Alison Kruzie. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 29 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4509 S. Montana Ave in Caldwell. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, October 28 at Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N Midland Blvd, Nampa (467-7300) and at the church Saturday from 9 to 9:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be at View Cemetery in Burley, Idaho next to his beloved sons. We are grateful for the warm wishes we received from all those that loved dad.
