Kenneth Randolph Lock-Smith III

Kenneth Randolph Lock-Smith III of Boise, Idaho passed away Monday, August 27, 2018, peacefully at home. He was 71 years old. Randy was born in Richmond, Virginia on February 8, 1947. He was the first of two children born to Kenneth and Thelma Nash Lock-Smith. As a child, Randy loved to play Cowboys and Indians with his sister Roxanna. He excelled in school graduating in the top 10 of his class. He enjoyed tennis, chess and complex strategy games. Randy spent his entire adult life faithfully serving as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Randy joined The Church on November 28, 1964 after months of personal study and attendance in early morning seminary. After High School he faithfully served a Mission to Ontario Canada for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After returning from his mission, he attended Brigham Young University, graduating in 1973 with a degree in Computer Science. Randy married Cynthia Harris on June 27, 1975 in the Salt Lake Utah LDS Temple. They lived in Sandy, Utah, Pleasant Grove, Utah and Boise, Idaho. They were married for 18 years and together they had five children: Kenny (Jessica Grow), Doug (Tara Pickens), Jon, Katherine (Justin Davis) and Anthony (Kailey Mitton). They have 14 grandchildren. On January 17, 1995 Randy married Shirley Hatch in the Jordan River Utah LDS Temple. He was stepfather to Shirley's five children: Michael (Rachel Larsen), Theresa (Brent Mellor), Kristie Jensen, Brian (Erin Fenstermaker) and Melanie (Allen Brooks). They were married for 18 years, residing in Utah and have 15 grandchildren and 2 3/4 great-grandchildren. For most of Randy's career he worked as a computer programmer in the banking and accounting software industry. Throughout his life, Randy enjoyed exploring the places he lived such as Virginia, Maryland, New Mexico, Alabama, Florida, Utah, Washington and Idaho. In his spare time, he also enjoyed playing and programming computer versions of his favorite strategy games. Randy was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Thelma Nash Lock-Smith. He is survived by Cynthia Harris Lock-Smith, Shirley Hatch Lock-Smith; his 10 children; 29 grandchildren; 2 3/4 great-grandchildren; his sister Roxanna (Stan Boyer); and his best friend Bill Wrigley. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 14 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 701 S. Curtis Rd in Boise with a gathering/visitation from 12:00 to 12:45 p.m. at the church prior to the services. Burial at the Middleton Cemetery following the services.
