Valerie Staley

Valerie Staley, 68, of Nampa passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on July 25, 2015 at her home. Valerie McWorter was born October 29, 1946 as the oldest of five children to Glen and LaRue McWorter in Glendale, California. She enjoyed her childhood years growing up with her siblings: Linda, Scott, Lani and Cari. Some of her favorite memoires as a child was the time they lived in Hawaii while her parents fulfilled a church labor mission. Valerie attended grade school and high school in California then went to college in Provo, UT at BYU. It was at BYU that she met her eternal companion and husband of nearly 50 years, John D. Staley. They were married in the Los Angeles LDS Temple on September 18, 1965. With John's military service and business career, they moved all over the western United States where they formed wonderful friendships with countless people, finally settling in Nampa. John and Val raised five children: Ruthie, Lisa, Christian, Wendy and Nathan. Being a wife and mother was Val's greatest joy and she loved her calling of being a mom and grandmother. Val was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held a variety of positions and callings throughout her life. She loved her Heavenly Father and always had a very strong testimony of her faith, and showed that by her faithful dedication and unwavering service. For 17 years Val worked with special needs children for the Nampa School district and loved the children she was able to work with. Val had amazing talents that she was always quick to share with others. Her sewing and crafting skills were unmatched. She took great joy in sewing beautiful clothes and blankets for her children and grandchildren that will be cherished forever. Val is survived by her husband who she lovingly called Johnny; her children: Ruthie (Byron) Webb, Lisa (James) Brown, Christian (Holly), Wendy (Steve) Poole, Nathan (Courtney); 20 grandchildren, and was very excited about her first great-grandchild due in January; her siblings Linda, Scott, Lani, Cari and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 1, at the Nampa South LDS Stake Center, 7809 Deer Flat Rd in Nampa. A viewing will be held at the church from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the services. Arrangements are under the direction of Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 467-7300.
