Scott Bruce McDonald

Scott Bruce McDonald, 75, died May 11, 2021, in Nampa, Idaho. He was born November 30, 1945 in Nampa, the son of Glen and Elizabeth McDonald. He and his three older brothers thrived in their parents' loving home. Scott graduated from Nampa High School. He fulfilled a two year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in southern California and Arizona and then received his B.A. and M. A. degrees from Idaho State University. In 1968, he married Nanette Bunce, his university sweetheart, in the Idaho Falls Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Their five children were the delight of his life. Their home was noisily filled with laughter, teasing, jokes, challenges, and spiritual experiences. One of Scott's favorite quotes was, "There is always a need for a good drummer." This stemmed from teenage years when he played in several rock bands in the 1960's, culminating in his playing with the Fabulous Chancellors. Later in life, his musical audiences included a Church tour in South Korea. His favorite audiences, however, were his children and grandchildren who would jump on the bed (much to Nan's dismay) while Scott played the drums. Another of his favorite quotes was, "Work first, then play." This pertained not only to the way he raised his children, but also to his own work ethic. The highlights of his career include the Director of the Idaho Department of Employment, the Director of the Southeast Idaho Council of Governments, the Director of the Association of Idaho Cities, and the Yarger and Associates Consulting firm. He established the Treasure Valley Reading Foundation, procuring and distributing thousands of books to underprivileged children in Idaho. An additional quote that he lived by is "Sacrifice brings blessings." He devoted his talents and his time to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Highlights of that time included serving college students in a Young Single Adult ward, counseling with youth as a bishop in a regular ward, years of serving in the temple, and fulfilling a mission in the Church Employment Services. Scott is survived by his wife Nanette; his five children and their spouses: Robert (Rebecca) McDonald of Superior, Colorado; Bart (Anna) McDonald of Pocatello, Idaho; Megan (Franklin) Henriquez of Frisco, Texas; Mark (Holli) McDonald of Meridian, Idaho; Brian (Shala) McDonald of Nampa, Idaho; 21 wonderful grandchildren; and one gorgeous little great-grandson. His parents; his three brothers: Jay, Kim and Brent; and his in-laws Bill and LaNore Bunce preceded Scott in death. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 15, 2021, in the Locust 25th Ward chapel, 607 West Locust Lane, Nampa, Idaho 83686 with a viewing from 9-9:45 AM prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, to honor Scott's passion and service in the Treasure Valley Reading Foundation, please donate a new book appropriate for ages K-3. Bring it to the service and place it in the book donation box. Perry Zeyer is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.
