John Richard "Rick" McDorman, 74, of Melba left this heavenly earth on February 12, 2019. Rick was born February 20, 1944 in Nampa, Idaho to Harold and Theora McDorman. He was the second of four boys. He lived with his grandparents off and on while growing up in Melba. He was educated in Melba but left school early to join the Army. After an honorable discharge he finished school and then went to college for two years.Rick married Dorothy, his first wife and they had three children: Ryk, Sonya and Holly. They lived in California and Nevada and he worked numerous jobs. He and Dorothy divorced and he moved back to Melba to help his family with the family business and he worked at different cattle ranches in Owyhee County. Rick always led by example, his good character and kindness will have a lasting impact on his family for years to come.He met the love of his life in 1979, Laura Manning. They later married at which time he took on Laura's two children Torrey and Angela. They lived in California for a time where Rick managed a truck stop. They later moved back to Melba to work on a ranch. He decided to start driving a truck and his long haul career began. First working for Willie Shaw and then Jim Palmer for many years. Wanting to go back to part time he "retired" and worked part time at RST Trucking. He enjoyed working for them up until his illness.Rick enjoyed time spent with the family and would boast about their accomplishments. He really loved his two years as Crew Chief and mechanic for his grandson who was racing at Meridian Speedway. He was also a master gardener and loved making wood furniture and things for the family. This past year he was elated with the births of his two great-grandsons whom he truly loved!Rick was preceded in death by his parents; and stepson Torrey E. Taylor. He is survived by his loving wife Laura; son Ryk (Leann) of Colorado; his daughters: Sonya (Steve) Worden, of Washington, Holly (Tony) Beavens of California and Angel Scott of Idaho; eight grandchildren: Scotty, Laura, Aubrey, Shaylee, Emilec, Casey, Keelan and Mailia; and two great-grandsons Bennet and Mason; his three brothers: Larry, Dee and Dennis; and his beloved aunt Betty; and numerous cousins; and his beloved dog Ruby;Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 20, at Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N Midland Blvd in Nampa. A viewing will be held at Zeyer Funeral Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 19. Burial will be in the Melba Cemetery.
