Karen Kay Hiner

Karen Kay (Carter) Hiner, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend slipped from this life to the next on June 29, 2023, surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband, Stan Hiner; two children Shelly Hiner (David Stolhand), Tanya Hiner-McKay (Jon); four grandchildren: Spencer Hiner-Stolhand, Ethan Hiner-Stolhand, Zach (Aleesa) Baker, Gloria Baker; two great-grandchildren Finnley (Gloria), Lukas (Zach); two brothers Dennis Carter (Pat), Gale Carter (Tracy); two brothers-in-law Lloyd Hiner (Sherry), Nelson Hiner (Judy); numerous nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Born February 19, 1944, in Oberlin, Kansas on her daddy's birthday, Karen was the only daughter with four brothers, a role that would later shape her curious, confident, and spirited personality. She spent her early years in Gary, Colorado on a 250-acre farm and moved with her family to Kuna, Idaho in 1955. She graduated from Kuna High School in May 1962, and spent the rest of her life researching all the many things she was interested in. Karen met the love of her life, Stan Hiner, and went on their first date on Valentine's Day 1962. They were married at the Kuna Church of the Nazarene on November 16, 1962. Stan and Karen celebrated their 60th anniversary in November 2022. Stan and Karen's adventures included selling real estate and raising their two daughters, Shelly and Tanya. In 1984, Karen began writing for the Nazarene Publishing House, providing numerous Sunday School lessons and devotionals over the years. Always curious, writing and genealogy were her passions, and she pursued the stories in addition to documenting the names and dates. She leaves behind the gift of a detailed and meticulously organized family history. Stan and Karen have resided in Nampa for the last 15 years, faithfully attending Nampa College Church of the Nazarene. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, LaVelle and Della Carter; two brothers Lee Carter (Gerry), Gary (Rachel) Carter; and sister-in-law Rachel (Gary) Carter.
