Janis Martindale

Janis Marie Goodwin Martindale returned to her Heavenly Father on the morning of October 16, 2014, due to causes incident to cancer. She was 71 years of age. Janis was born on August 27, 1943 in Lewiston, Utah, to Marietta Abel Goodwin and Rex Goodwin. She was raised in Lewiston by her grandparents Sarah and Joseph Abel. She attended school there, and graduated from North Cache High School in Richmond, Utah, in 1961. She then studied composite business education at Utah State University in Logan, Utah, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in 1965. Following her undergraduate education, she was employed in Logan for several years before moving to Burley, Idaho, in order to teach high school in nearby Oakley. She met Mark Martindale in Burley, and the two were married in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple on July 10, 1970. Besides a short stint in Provo, Utah, she resided in Burley, Idaho for the next 14 years, where her 3 children, Teresa, Eric, and Brett, were born. The family moved to Caldwell, Idaho in 1984, where she spent the rest of her life. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served fellow members as a Primary president, Cub Scout leader, counselor in the Relief Society presidency, and family history specialist. She and her husband also served a church mission at the LDS Employment Center in Boise, Idaho, from 2011-2014. Janis was talented and well-read. She enjoyed playing and listening to music. But her greatest talent was as a seamstress. She sewed, mended, tailored, and revised countless quilts, dresses, blankets, and other wares. Her ability to sew just about anything made beds cozy, granddaughters princesses, brides radiant, high school choirs unified, and cold strangers warm. Above all, her greatest joy in life was her family. Her time was consumed in the service of her husband, children and grandchildren, whether it was making a meal, playing a game, or patiently listening to their concerns. They always knew they had a listening ear and a comforting lap in their mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Sarah and Joseph Abel; her parents, Marietta McVay and Rex Goodwin; and her aunts, Alverna (Horace) Turner and Jolene (Fred) Kiefer. She is survived by her husband, Mark; her children: Teresa (Tim) Gamble, Eric (Margaret) Martindale, and Brett (Britney) Martindale; her 7 grandchildren: Alexis, Tamsen, Joshua, Ryan, Hayden, William, and Abigayle; her aunts, Dawn (Lavon) Herzog, and Barbara (Lewis) Knudsen; her sisters, Candi (Richard) Nicholls, and Shauna (Michael) Jones; and her brothers, Blake (Laurel) Goodwin, and Michael (Emmilene) Goodwin.
