Carol Flake Waltman

Carol Irene Flake Waltman passed away peacefully at her home in Middleton, Idaho, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 26, 1943, to Dennis and Carol Read Flake and raised with her nine siblings on Strawberry Glen Road in Boise, Idaho. She attended Boise High School and while attending Boise Junior College she met a handsome returned missionary, Glen Jay Waltman, from Nampa. He had recently returned from the South African Mission. They were married in the Logan Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on October 4, 1962. They lived and raised their family in Boise, Star, and Middleton, Idaho. Carol was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had a strong testimony and love of her Savior, Jesus Christ, and his restored church upon the earth. She served in various Church positions including teacher and president of the Primary, Young Women, and Relief Society. She especially enjoyed serving the youth. She worked as secretary and teacher at the Middleton Seminary for ten years as her children and grandchildren attended Middleton High School. After Glen retired and all their children were married and beginning their own families, they had the rich experience of serving in the Florida Orlando Mission. She was also privileged to serve in the Boise and Meridian Idaho Temples. All who associated and served with her recognized her sweet and caring spirit. Motherhood was precious to her, and she treasured being the mother of twelve children. She used to say, "'cheaper by the dozen' isn't true, but the 'more the merrier' is." She loved having the grandchildren nearby and often had "Grandchildren Parties" and many can attest to her proudly displayed pictures in her home of her grandchildren on her famous "Grandkids Wall". Carol had an unwavering testimony of the Lord, Jesus Christ and lived and loved the gospel. She never hesitated to share her testimony with those around her. Her Christlike example will live on through generations to come. She is survived by her children: Brent (Jody) Waltman of Garden Valley, Idaho; Darren (Melanie) Waltman of Okarche, Oklahoma; (Lisa) Waltman of Middleton, Idaho; Todd (Kristie) Waltman of Simpsonville, Kentucky; Julie (Mike) Tanner of Twin Falls, Idaho; Vaughn (Lindsay) Waltman of Middleton, Idaho; Lance (Becky) Waltman of Buhl, Idaho; Shari (Elliot) Kirk of Rexburg, Idaho; Brandon (Natalie) Waltman of Middleton, Idaho; Carolee (Gus) Drake of Rigby, Idaho; Valerie (Bryce) Waite of Middleton, Idaho; Tiffany (Daniel) Dunn of Farnham, Virginia. She is also survived by her 75 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; her siblings: Dennis (Deanna), Lawrence (Elaine), Joel (RaeAnn), Layne (Jana), Lucy (Virgil), Forrest (Jolynne), Claudia (David), Bryan (MayLynn), Lovalyn (Delbert); and a sister-in-law, Janet Fry. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Waltman; her son, Jared Waltman; her granddaughter, Mariah Waltman; and her parents, Dennis and Carol Flake. Special thanks to the many kind and thoughtful family and friends for their love and concern. Funeral services will be held at 11am, Saturday, February 5 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 23644 Old HWY 30 in Caldwell, with a viewing from 9 to 10:45am prior to the services.
