Wendell Blair Everton passed away December 13, 2015, due to complications of diabetes. He was born September 4, 1942, the third of four sons to John Wilber and Maurine Montague Everton. His early years were spent living on Canyon Street in Nampa. He attended Lincoln and Kenwood Elementary Schools and Nampa High School. He spent his life working with his family at Everton Mattress Factory on Garrity Blvd. This was the pride of Wendell's working years, making a good product that everyone needed. Wendell's connections through the factory made it possible for him to buy almost anything. He loved finding bargains for many people, which earned him the nickname "Swindell". You always knew Wendell's truck by the "Bedman" plate. Wendell married Sandra Manning, but later divorced. He and Louise were married on May 1, 1971. They have three children: Amy, John and Jody. With all three children and Louise having birthdays in February, Valentine's became Wendell's favorite holiday to buy gifts. Of course, Amy got the biggest box of chocolates, being born on Valentine's Day. Wendell's family spent many summers camping at Kennelly Creek, in Donnelly, with the whole Montague Clan. Fishing and hiking to the upper lakes and stories around the campfire were memoires Wendell talked about for years. In 1977 Wendell and Louise purchased land in Donnelly near Cascade Lake. This became their second home. They loved their every summer weekend trips, and always a full week of camping with good friends Gene and Bev Crisman. It wasn't always fishing and playing. There was wood to cut, fences to build, and a septic tank hole that was dug by hand. But the work just made the playing, fishing, and campfire times more fun. Wendell taught his children many things, but their work ethic shows he taught them well. Work before play. Wendell had a favorite restaurant he liked in Ogden, Utah called "Utah Noodle". Many times he would call good friends Russ and Susan Schroeder and say 'Let's go out to eat tonight. Pack a bag." And off we went, playing cards in the room till it was time to go home. Wendell loved working with wood, and shows in the many things he made. Wendell was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Lamar and Max Everton. He is survived by his wife Louise; son John (Dusty); daughters Amy (Dave) Kohler and Jody (Gary) Soto; one grandson Landin Lamar Everton; and his constant companion, Sadie; one brother Bruce Everton (June); one sister-in-law Regina (Max) Everton; and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. He is also survived by three step-grandsons, two step-granddaughters and three step- great-granddaughters Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 18 at the Nampa East LDS Stake Center, 3904 E. Greenhurst Rd. in Nampa. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, December 17, at Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N Midland Blvd in Nampa (467-7300) and at the church, Friday, from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Burial to follow services at Meridian Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Foundation or your favorite charity.
