Walter Eugene "Gene" SiddowayUSAF MSgt. RetiredWalter Eugene "Gene" Siddoway passed away peacefully during his sleep on January 18, 2021 at the age of 78. Gene was born on a rural farm in Teton City, Idaho to Velma Lucile and Walter Amos Siddoway on May 16, 1942. Gene was the youngest of three children, the older two being identical twin sisters, Shirley Siddoway Smith and Shirlene Siddoway Davidson. Together they were raised on a potato farm and learned the value of hard work. Following his high school graduation, Gene attended and played football at Ricks College. After a year of college, Gene served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Sydney, Australia.After his mission, he returned to Ricks College where he met and married the love of his life, Karen Lundquist, on April 1, 1964 in the Idaho Falls, Idaho Temple.Gene always had a strong desire to serve and care for others, which is what guided his career choices. Gene served honorably for 20 years in the US Air Force from 1963 to 1983 as a Medical Specialist and retired as a Master Sergeant. Throughout his medical career, he had a variety of responsibilities including managing the ER and Labor & Delivery. He obtained Aeromedical Evacuation Flight Status and transported many sick and injured patients in 17 foreign countries and the USA. Gene was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he regulated medical air evacuations. During his military career, he and his wife, Karen, raised four children while living in several US states and foreign countries which included Montana, Idaho, Alaska, Illinois, Philippines, Germany, and California. After his retirement from the US Air Force in 1983, Gene and Karen returned to Idaho to continue raising their children in Nampa. Gene continued to serve others with his medical skills by working for the Idaho Department of Corrections as an Emergency Medical Specialist for 16 years. Gene is survived by his wife of 56 years, Karen Lundquist Siddoway; their four children: Stephen Eugene Siddoway, Sharon Kay Thompson, Sherilyn Siddoway Ridgwell, and Shawn Scott Siddoway; 16 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews. A funeral service will be held in-person for family members on Saturday, January 23 at 10:30 AM. A public viewing will be held from 7-8pm Friday, Jan. 22 at Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N. Midland Blvd. Nampa. Please wear a mask and practice social distancing.
