Cordell LaVon Kendrick passed away of cancer at home in Boise, Idaho at the age of 83. Cordell was born in Logan, Utah on March 29,1940, to LaVon and Lois Nelson Kendrick and was the oldest of five children. His family moved several times before buying a farm in Smithfield, Utah. Cordell loved the farm life, a love that translated into the wonderful gardens he cultivated late in life.Cordell graduated from North Cache High School and attended Utah State University from 1958 through 1960. He then served a two-year mission to the East Central States for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and upon his return, went back to school and had several part time jobs.Cordell met a lovely young lady named Marilyn Andersen at a Church young adult activity and they fell in love and were married in the Logan Utah Temple on June 15, 1964. In 1966, the couple welcomed their first child, Jeffery, and then Bonnie in 1968, and Janet in 1970, all in Brigham City, Utah. The family moved to Boise in 1971, and Clinton was born in 1972, Linda in 1974, and Chad in 1977, completing a wonderful family of six children.Cordell graduated with a degree in accounting from Utah State in 1966 and took a job as an auditor in Utah with the United States Department of Agriculture Inspector General. After the move to Boise, he was an auditor and the district director for the USDA's Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. He was also on the Boise US Federal Employees Federal Credit Union board of directors for 23 years. Marilyn took care of the family and later worked in the Boise Schools. Cordell retired in 1997, with 32 years of federal service, but worked several part time "retirement" jobs over the following years to keep him busy.Cordell was active in the Church and served in several bishoprics in the Boise 11th Ward and on the Stake High Council. He also served as Ward Clerk in the Northview Ward. In 2003 and 2004, Cordell and Marilyn served an 18-month mission in Scotland and had a wonderful time together. They loved Scotland and its people.Cordell was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Bruce and Clyde; and his daughter Bonnie. He is survived by his wife Marilyn; his children: Jeffery (Santha), Janet (Patrick), Clinton (Verenda), Linda (George), Chad (Michaela); 27 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren whom he loved very much. He is also survived by two sisters, Patricia and Brenda (Keith); and two sisters-in-law, Gloria and Janette.The family wants to thank St. Luke's Hospice for their exceptional care, especially Deanna and LeAnn.Services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, August 7, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 6711 W. Northview Street in Boise, Idaho. The family will greet friends and relatives in the Relief Society room from 10-10:45am prior to the service.
