Bruce Montague Everton

Bruce Montague Everton, 81, died April 7, 2021, after a valiant 10-year battle with Parkinson's Disease. Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather was born on March 24, 1940, in Brigham City, UT, to J. Wilber Everton and Maurine Montague. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Nampa, ID, where Wilber started the Everton Mattress Factory. Dad, along with his brothers, Max and Wendell, continued to run the business until 2004 when they retired and sold it to extended family. The name Everton became synonymous with a good night's sleep and fair and honest business practice, and we are proud of the legacy they built. Dad graduated from Nampa High School in 1958, and then served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Virginia/North Carolina Mission. He remained forever friends with the one and only family he helped baptize. But before leaving on his mission, while attending church one Sunday, he noticed a cute little gal he didn't recognize sitting alone. He introduced himself and discovered her name was June Feik and she was attending Nampa Business College. He drove her home that day and thus began a 62-year romance. June waited for him to return from his mission, and they were married on July 20, 1962. Together they made their home in Nampa and raised three children: Teresa, Karyn, and Darrell. Dad came from a long line of musicians and was an accomplished cellist and vocalist. He was first chair in his high school orchestra, and later helped form a barbershop quartet that they called The 4 Dads. His light-hearted nature was perfect for the setting and they enjoyed bringing joy to those who heard them sing. He was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held numerous callings in the Church throughout his life. Nearest and dearest to his heart were the many years spent serving in the Boise Idaho Temple alongside his wife, June. Dad loved the outdoors, so much so that they went camping on their honeymoon! They spent every summer camping with family and friends, fishing, 4-wheeling, telling stories, and enjoying the beauties of nature. In 1992 they purchased property in Donnelly, ID, and over the next nearly 20 years you could find them there more frequently than at their Nampa home during the summer months. In 2010 Dad was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. He met it with the same positive attitude he had met other obstacles in his life. He would do as much as he could while he could, and rest when he needed to. During the past year, he began to suffer from related dementia which ultimately overtook his mind, causing him much duress. He is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years, June of Nampa; daughter Teresa (Rocky) Goodman and her daughters Megan and Kamryn Lawton; daughter Karyn (Dale) Jacobsen and their children: Makenzie, Austen, and Dallen; and son Darrell Everton and his children Carsen and Harper. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his three brothers: LaMar, Wendell, and Max. The family would like to thank the many caregivers he had during his last month on earth: Park Place Assisted Living, West Valley Medical Center, Heart and Home Hospice, and Meadow View Nursing Home, in particular Rita Merrick, who was instrumental in placing him in the hands of very capable caregivers during his final days. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 AM, Monday, April 12, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 88 S Happy Valley Rd in Nampa. A viewing will be held at The Church from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Sunday, April 11 and again from 8:30 to 9:15 AM. Monday, prior to the services. Interment will follow the services at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Caldwell. Perry Zeyer is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.
