John Wesley Perkins

John Wesley Perkins, 78, of Nampa, passed away in his home surrounded by loved ones on Monday April 23, 2018. John was born September 23, 1939 in Odin, Illinois to William and Mary Elizabeth Smith Perkins. John was the middle child of 13, six brothers and six sisters. He grew up on a farm where he developed the love for gardening, cooking, hunting and fishing. He graduated high school and then joined the Air Force. His short military career took him to Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nevada where he met the love of his life on a blind date on a Friday the 13th. The military sent him to Florida for two months, and upon his return, he knew that he couldn't live without his love. John and Carolyn were married one week later on December 14, 1962. They were married for 54 years. They were blessed with six children, 4 boys and 2 girls, 21 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. They raised their family in Las Vegas, Nevada for 45 plus years. In 2010, they moved to Nampa, Idaho to leave the hot desert behind. John retired after 40 years of employment at Titanium Medals Corporation of Henderson, Nevada. Besides working, John was actively involved in the Boy scouts of America. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he held many positions and served in both the Las Vegas and Boise temples. John was preceded in death by both parents, his wife, Carolyn, three sisters, Wilma, Martha, and Loraine and brother Edgar, and grandson Drew. He was survived by his six children, James (Renna), Belinda, Greg (Toni), Johnny (Laura), Eric (Amber), and Jennifer (Aaron), brothers Fred, Leo, Tom, Calvin, and George-Allen, sisters Carol, Dorothy, and Neoma, 20 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Friday April 27th, 2018 at 1pm at the LDS chapel located at 18486 Middleton Rd. Viewing will start at 12pm-12:45pm. Interment will be in Las Vegas at the Palm Eastern Mortuary on Tuesday May 1, 2018 at 11am.
