Cary Leland Zufelt passed away at 82 years of age on August 7, 2021 in Meridian Idaho. Cary was born on June 19, 1939 to Robert Leland Zufelt and Dagmar Marie Slade in Durango Colorado. Cary was the oldest child with 2 brothers, Gary and Rodney and a doting sister, Mayona Tippetts. Growing up, Cary moved around a lot with his family including Sunnyside, Breen, Hay Gulch, and Kline, Colorado. Cary attended Fort Lewis Elementary school, Durango High School and Fort Lewis College. In 1960, Cary served a 30 month mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Peru. He returned home in 1963 and in the same year was drafted into the Army. Cary did basic training in Fort Polk, Louisiana. After basic he served in Germany and returned home in 1965. Cary married the love of his life Ione Elizabeth Alverson and became eternal companions on February 26, 1966 in the Manti, Utah Temple. Together they raised 7 children and now have 29 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren with 2 on the way. After Cary and Ione were married they lived 10 years in Utah before moving to Colorado in 1976. His main line of work was maintenance at Four Corners Power Plant in San Juan County New Mexico where he retired in 2001 with 30+ years under his belt. While working there he resided at Kline and Red Mesa, Colorado. Cary was very soft spoken but loved helping others and was always courteous, kind, and quick to make a joke. When chores were done he could be found in his chair reading. Always reading! He and his wife had a big garden every year. He was very good about making sure his parents,who lived close by, were taken care of. He always seemed to be working on something such as woodworking or leather. Cary is survived by his spouse Ione Zufelt; his children: Caren (Bruce) Durrant, Aaron, Britt (Denise), Wesley (Debbie), Sarah (Chris) Butler, Tyrell (Ashley), and Desiree; 29 Grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by two siblings, Mayona (DeMar) Tippets, Rodney (Debbie). Numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Cary joins his parents Robert Zufelt (Feb. 13 2003) and Dagmar Zufelt (May 16 2005) and a brother and sister-in-law Gary (Peggy). Services will be held on August 25, 2021 at 8625 S. Linder Rd, Meridian Idaho. Viewing will be from 1-1:45 with the service starting at 2 pm. Graveside services will be August 26 at 11 am at Veterans Cemetery, 10100 N Horseshoe Bend Rd. Boise, Idaho. Zeyer Funeral Chapel of Nampa Idaho will be arranging services. The family wishes to express appreciation for endless service for family and friends over the last several years and to nurses and caregivers for the last 2 years.
