Vern Ferril Jolley was born June 16, 1939 in Burley, Idaho to loving parents, Ferril and Josephine Jolley. He has one sister, Betty, and one brother, Bob. He graduated from Burley High School in 1958 and enlisted and joined the U.S. Army. He became a lab tech and in 1959 was stationed at Madigan Army Hospital in Tacoma, Washington. In 1959 he married his best friend and love of his life, Carol Bingham. He was later sent to Germany for the remainder of his service where Carol was able to join him. He was a veteran during the Berlin Crisis while they were putting up the wall. Despite the war, together Vern and Carol were able to travel to many new and exciting places throughout Europe. He loved his country and was proud to serve in the Army. Following his service Vern and Carol returned to Provo, Utah where he completed his bachelor's degree in History and Math. In 1967 they moved to Carey, Idaho where Vern began teaching math at the high school. After teaching for three years Vern received a fellowship to Penn State University. He took his wife and five children and went back to school to receive his master's degree in Mathematics. They then returned to Carey, Idaho where he continued to teach high school math and coach or assist in football, basketball and track. He coached JV basketball for 22 years and coached girls track between 1982 and 1996. He led the girls into five team titles and was named Fourth District Coach of the year in 1991-1993 and again in 1995. He was the kind of coach that made you feel that you would succeed, and he always loved teaching both the students and the athletes. He was not only active in the Carey Community, but he was also active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held many church positions, his favorite being the Bishop of Carey 2nd Ward. He had a strong and humble testimony of his Savior, Jesus Christ. He knew of the many blessings he had received and for that he was thankful. Vern loved to fish and camp in the mountains and spend time with his family. He loved his five wonderful children and taught them to work along with him. He very rarely missed sporting events or musical concerts for his children (or later, his grandchildren). He was always considered the life of the party and was determined to live life to the fullest. After retiring from teaching Vern and Carol were called as a couple on a mission for their Church to the Fort Worth Mission in Texas. There they taught at the University of North Texas at the institute of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had many fond memories of that time. After completing their mission, they went home to Carey and worked in the Church Employment Center in Twin Falls for a year and then in the Twin Falls Temple of the Church. After 47 years of making a beautiful life full of wonderful memories in Carey, Idaho on Little Wood River Road, Vern and Carol moved to be closer to their children and doctors in Nampa, Idaho in 2011. Vern enjoyed being a father, husband, grandfather and great-grandfather as each child brought a smile to his face and he was happy to be able to be close enough to spend time with them. On November 4, 2020 Vern passed away peacefully in his home in Nampa, Idaho, surrounded by his wife and children. Vern was preceded in death by his father and mother, Ferril and Josephine; and his sister Betty Bickmore. He is survived by his wife Carol; brother Bob Jolley; daughter Bonnie (Layne) Perme; daughter Cindy Walgamott; daughter Vickie (Greg) Gregerson; son Chad (Rachelle) Jolley; daughter Tamara (Clint) Walker; along with 21 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; and many wonderful nephews and nieces and extended family members. His was a life well lived. Vern, you will always be remembered as a hard-working, honest, kind, generous man who never judged and offered support and encouragement to others. You had such a sense of humor and always knew how to start and end a conversation. Your presence and love are already greatly missed in all of our lives. We, your posterity, will always do our best to live our lives as you taught us. Your example of faith, courage and true Christlike love was taught to us by you and the example you have lived.
