Joanne Russell Crowder

Joanne Russell Crowder, 84, of Nampa, Idaho passed peacefully on August 8, 2023, in the presence of her husband, David, and daughters, Carolyn, Rebecca, and Heather; her children Ethan, Linda, and Johnathan, were able to witness the passing aided by modern electronics. Joanne was born April 10, 1939, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the youngest of seven children. She moved with her parents, John Russell and Ethelyn Stevenson Russell, and siblings, to a farm close to Kuna, Idaho. She attended school in Kuna, graduating in 1957. She was a member of the National Honors Society and presented the Salutatory Address for her class. It was at Kuna High School, she met David Lester Crowder who became her high school sweetheart. After high school, Joanne worked, attended Brigham Young University, in Provo, Utah, and then attended the Church College of Hawaii (now BYU Hawaii). On September 1, 1960, she married David Lester Crowder, a sailor in the United States Navy, stationed in Hawaii. They were wed in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints' Hawaiian Temple in Laie, Oahu, for time and eternity. Joanne and David have 7 children: Linda, Carolyn, Rebecca, William, Ethan, Heather, and Johnathan. Joanne was an extraordinary homemaker and mother. She was always available to teach, listen, protect, support, applaud, bind up wounds, and love without guile. She is the grandmother of 25, and the great-grandmother of 40. As a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Joanne served in many callings, mostly teaching children, and playing the piano for church services. After David retired, they served three full-time senior missions in Australia, New Jersey, and the Dominican Republic. Her final calling with her beloved husband was as a full-time temple worker in the Boise Temple and then the Meridian Temple. On August 22nd from 6 to 8pm, a memorial service will be held in the Zeyer Funeral Chapel, Nampa, Idaho. Internment services will be held at the Burton Cemetery, Rexburg, Idaho, at 3:00pm on August 23rd. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Primary Children's Hospital, Salt Lake City, Utah.
