Gordon Malin Smith

Gordon Malin Smith was born on May 11, 1936 in East Ely, Nevada, the second son of Malin Ross and Cora Marval Smith. The family consisted of Kent, Gordon, Steven and JoAnn. During his early years he lived in Nevada and then moved to Lehi, Utah. After high school, Gordon joined the army and served in Korea. Upon returning to the U.S., Gordon served a mission in Southern California for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He met Sharon Moore at BYU and they married in the Idaho Falls temple. Together they worked toward his degrees in psychology/sociology at BYU and a graduate degree at University of Utah. Gordon began his professional career as a therapist in Ukiah and Yreka, California. His Boise career started by working at the Children's Home and then he developed a thriving and long private practice. He worked with youth, adults and families feeling genuine concern for all. Many people in Boise have benefited from Gordon's concern, therapy and hypnosis. Gordon delighted in his five children and 11 grandchildren. Give him a small opening and he would chat you up about them all. The family is very close and has great memories of camping/cabin, wild ATV rides, and a multitude of hair raising adventures. Gordon was known for the twinkle in his eye, love of basketball, and his wood projects. He had a mill, a splitter, lots of muscle and unbounded enthusiasm. Sometimes the wood came down on his truck or a beehive would or was harvested on questionable land, but that was a small matter compared to the number of cords he collected. He used some of his wood to make log furniture. All who own a wood project of Gordon's appreciate his craftsmanship. Gordon is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sharon Moore; his children: Sharadon (Edison), Trenton, Shawn (Katie), Tyler (Tiffany), and Nicholas (Kimberly) as well his grandchildren: Mei-lin, Violet, Wyatt, Zoe, Dylan, Malia, Dane, Halle, Hunter, Tylee and Harmony. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 23 at the Boise First Ward Chapel, 2290 Warm Springs Avenue in Boise with a viewing from 11:30 to 12:45 p.m. prior to the services.
