Joyce Kirby Marcum passed away quietly in her sleep early in the morning on April 11, 2021 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's. Joyce was 85 years old.Joyce was born on January 11, 1936 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Delbert Kirby and Julia Valeria (Bair) Kirby. She was the youngest of 6 children. Her siblings included: Dell, Don, Rex, Virginia, and Robert. Joyce's parents bought a grocery store in Victor, Idaho in 1946 so they moved there and spent 4 years running the store in Victor. Joyce loved living in Victor because of the beautiful Teton Mountains and the surrounding valley. She was active in playing softball, music, and was developing a great artistic talent in drawing and painting. Joyce played several musical instruments and played the bass fiddle with the Mello Tones, a dance band, in her young adult years.In 1950, her family moved to Boise Idaho where Joyce attended Boise High School. On July 9, 1954 she married the love of her life, Shelby Eugene Marcum in the Idaho Falls Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Joyce and Shelby were active members of The Church. They had seven children: Steven Kirby Marcum (Jana), LeAnn Marcum Wilson (Garth), Michael Dean Marcum (Beverly), Lanette Marcum, David Lynn Marcum (Karen), Kathleen Marcum Jones (Keith), and Alayna Marcum Jordan (Doug). They raised their family in Boise, Idaho. They have 30 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Joyce was an excellent homemaker. When Alayna was a freshman in High School, Joyce worked for American Bank of Commerce as the Check Filing Department Supervisor. Shelby owned and operated Action Quality Printers in Boise and the family often helped with jobs at the print shop with Joyce providing her typing skills. Joyce was also a great seamstress and avid quilter, and she crocheted over 5,000 sets of booties and hats for hospitals and humanitarian projects, as well as making leprosy bandages. Joyce loved gardening and was well known for her beautiful flowers. She also had one of her paintings displayed in St. Luke's hospital in Boise.Joyce and Shelby served two missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, one in London, England and one in Oklahoma City, OK. Both also served a Stake Mission in the Boise Idaho East Stake. It was upon their return from their Oklahoma City mission that they moved to Nampa, Idaho.Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; all of her siblings; and 2 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her beloved husband Shelby; and all of her children. Funeral Services for Joyce will be held Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 1500 Smith Avenue in Nampa, ID with a viewing from 10:00 to 10:45 AM prior to the services.
