Sandra "Sally" Marie Howe

Sandra "Sally" Marie Howe, 79, of Nampa passed away Saturday, August 2, 2014 at a local hospital. She was born May 8, 1935 in Virginia City, Nevada. She was the first girl born in Virginia City in the prior 13 years. She had two brothers, James that passed away in his early years and Bill who was 20 years her senior. She was raised and educated in Renton, Washington. Sally loved animals. She trained horses and worked with the 4-H children with their horses. She also trained her dog to walk on a wire and up ladders. She met Marvin Howe at the Naval Base E-Club in Sandpoint, Washington. He won her heart and they were married May 8, 1954. In November of 1961 they were blessed with a daughter, Laurie. She has been a real light in their lives. Sally loved to square dance and they did so all over the country. She was so good at square dancing that everybody wanted to dance with her! They loved to fish and camp. Laurie said she sat through many rainstorms while they fished. One time when they were camping the rain came so hard that is seemed to them they were in the middle of a creek bed! The water streamed under their tent! They loved taking trips. One time they started in Utah went to Yellowstone then to South Dakota and there hooked up to the Lewis & Clark Trail and followed it home. It was said on one trip Sally planned, she planned the driving so that she was always sitting on the shade side of the car because of the route she planned. Marvin wondered why they took so many twists and turns in the Journey! On another trip she got gout in her foot. Her daughter suggested that she ride with her foot out the window, that the wind would give her some relief. She rode close to 300 miles with her foot out the window! She especially loved visiting Victoria, Canada. Sally was an excellent cook making the best cinnamon rolls, fried chicken, homemade mac and cheese and her husband said "the best Banana Cream Pie. She really knew how to bake a pie! It was a sad day when she stopped making her pies!" She loved to eat Lobster and Crab. She enjoyed music, especially country music and she loved listening to the music her daughter played on the piano. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She and her daughter made many leper bandages that they donated. She was a painter and did oil painting and toll painting. She liked to arrange flowers. She also loved to hold big family parties. The family moved to Nampa, Idaho to be near family and fell in love with the sun and the heat that they did not experience in Washington. She would spend much of her time trying to make Marvin's work easier. She spent time with Laurie helping her with her work (school or otherwise) until she got sick and then Laurie began to take care of her. When she was not able to do much anymore, she learned how to use the computer. She has spent a lot of time researching her genealogy. They have read the Book of Mormon and the Bible on the computer. They took the missionary lessons and came to love the missionaries and the message of Christ that they taught. Sally and Marvin were both baptized in December of 2013, following the great example of their sweet daughter. Sally was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings: Violet, William Eugene and James, in-laws Evelyn and Wilber Howe, Wayne Howe and nephew Rick Howe. She is survived by her husband and daughter and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, August 9 at the Nampa 22nd Ward LDS Chapel, 927 Ruth Lane, Nampa with a viewing to be held at the church from 3 to 3:45 p.m. prior to the services.
