Gale Lea Howe

Gale Lea Howe passed away at his home on Friday, July 29, 2016. He was born on February 20, 1935 in Bentonville, Arkansas to Archie and Wanda Howe. He was raised in Kingfisher, Oklahoma, moving to Tucson, Arizona while in High School. During those years he worked at the theater, a grocery store and was a soda jerk. He started his electrical apprenticeship at the age of 18. He later became a journeyman electrician. He joined the union and kept that membership into his 70's. He married and had three boys: Dale, Darryl and Darren. He found himself taking the responsibility and raising these boys on his own. In 1963 he moved to Dana Point, California and continued his 20 year career as an electrician. He started his own travel agency which took him around the world, his favorite being an Alaskan cruise. During this time he did the "Nixon Tours", it was said of him "He arranged the largest movement of people out of Orange County to the Caribbean". When he wasn't working he enjoyed square dancing. He was a member of the Elks and Chamber of Commerce. He was very involved in the politics of San Clemente and chairman of an organization that helped people get out and vote. After leaving the travel world he returned to the electrical trade and worked for the State of California. He was working in the prison system teaching inmates about the electrical trade. His electrical work brought him temporarily to Idaho as a contact electrician at Micron. He was headed back to California to work when he was impress to "give up the income California offered and return to Boise". Upon returning to Boise he joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in June of 1995. Shortly after that he met his wife Lorinda. They were married in December of 1995 and sealed in the Boise LDS Temple the following year. He retired as an electrician at the age of 62. After one year of retirement he went to work for the Kuna School District as a bus driver. He described the children "as the future of our town"> He again retired at the age of 74. His interest in politics continued throughout his life. He was the campaign chair for mayor and later ran for Mayor of the City of Kuna. He volunteered for the Ada County sheriff and was on the Kuna planning and zoning committee. He was also a very active member of the LDS faith. Serving as the Sunday School Secretary, teacher and in the High Priest Quorum presidency. He found joy in serving in the Boise LDS Temple, volunteering at the cannery and was also called to a service mission at Deseret Industries. He and his wife enjoyed team teaching in primary. He faithfully attended meeting until he could no longer walk. Gale was preceded in death by his parents; brother; three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law. He leaves behind his eternal companion Lorinda; his children: Dale Howe, Darryl (Ashley) Howe, Darren (Chris) Howe, Darren (Tina) Hill, Cynthia (Steven) Schindler, Teresa Hill (Trent McNair), Dwayne (April) Hill; daughter-in-law Rita; 17 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; sister Joann Solie; two brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. Gale will always be remembered as someone who cared about others. He wanted to help make their lives better. He will be remembered for his integrity, hard work, and kindness. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle and brother. His smile will be missed. The family would like to say a special thank you to all who served him, especially Wendy, Toni, John, Nola, the High Priest Quorum and a big thanks to the Aaronic Priesthood who came every Sunday.
