Myrna Carlene Matheson Laub, 88, passed away peacefully on Good Friday, April 7, in Boise, Idaho, following a recent diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.Born on November 23, 1934, the youngest child of Gwendolyn Higbee and Henry Gordon Matheson. She grew up in Cedar City, Utah, and Monrovia, California, and attended Brigham Young and Boise State Universities.Carlene is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Marvin James Laub, whom she married in March 1956 in the St. George Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Together, they were blessed with five children and their spouses: David, Catherine and Edward, Brian and Stephanie, Steve and Coralyn, and Michael and Megan. Their family has grown to include 12 grandchildren: Sebastian (Brianna), Samantha (Ryan), Megan (Adam), Jarrod (Sarah), Seth, McKenzie (Brandon), Tyler (Erika), Ashley (Riley), Abby (Wayne), James, Alison, and Philip; as well as 11 great-grandchildren (with two more on the way); and cherished nieces and nephews, all of whom have brought immense joy to their lives.Carlene was an entrepreneur who owned a daycare and a wedding catering and decorating business called the Specialty Shoppe. She was highly regarded for her dedication to America and her community. Active in her church, Carlene served as the Stake Relief Society President and in the Stake Primary Presidency, among other callings. She was involved in the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Daughters of the Utah Pioneers (DUP), and the American Legion. Carlene took great joy in serving others in all of her various capacities.Carlene's passions included gardening (becoming a certified master gardener) and working at the Family History Center. She was also enthusiastic about education, art, music, books, and the outdoors. Throughout her life, she sought beauty in nature and culture. Spunky and full of life, Carlene never stopped learning and loved sharing her passion with those around her. She always encouraged her loved ones to see the beauty of the world, finding joy and happiness in both people and circumstances.Above all, Carlene cherished spending time with Marvin, family, and friends. Marvin and Carlene began their journey together with a memorable camping trip in a Volkswagen Beetle traveling from Los Angeles to Lake Louise in Banff, Canada. She loved deeply and left an indelible mark on the hearts of many. To know her was to be loved by her. Carlene departs from this life grateful for love, good times, beauty, and adventure, eagerly anticipating the next chapter of her journey.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, April 15, at 2212 E Amity Ave in Nampa, Idaho 83686, with a viewing from 1:00 to 1:45 pm prior to the services. The family invites all who knew and loved Carlene to attend and celebrate her life.
