Daniel Masterson, 83, of Middleton Idaho, passed peacefully early morning September 21, 2018. He was born to Blanche Hall and Louis Masterson in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska. He spent nearly sixty years going to school. The early years of his education were spent in a one-room schoolhouse in Promise, Oregon which he later wrote about in his book, "Promise, The Oregon Country" which is available on Amazon. He earned a Masters Degree in Education and was a veteran of the Air Force, serving four years in military intelligence in Japan. After the Air Force, he had a desire to go to BYU Provo where he was converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. As a convert he was proud to give up smoking and live a healthy lifestyle following the Word of Wisdom from then on. In 1959 he returned to Idaho where he met his eternal companion Judith "Colleen" Collins and they were married September 16, 1960, in the Salt Lake City, Utah Temple. He loved fishing, hiking and bird watching. Dan is survived by his wife Colleen Masterson, daughter Dana C. Briggs (Brian) and two sons Daniel E. Masterson Jr. (Darla) and Matthew L. Masterson (Kristi); nine Grandchildren and four Great Grandchildren. The funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 25 at the new Middleton Stake Center, 1332 Cornell St. at 11 am with a viewing just prior starting at 10 a.m. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Zeyer Funeral Chapel 208-467-7300.
