Sylvia Birkeland Jensen, 88, of Nampa passed away Saturday, May 6, 2023. She was born August 20, 1934, in Powers Lake, North Dakota to Nils and Lucille Birkeland. She was reared and educated in Williston, North Dakota where she also met her husband, Leroy. They were married on December 10, 1953. In 1959, they moved to Idaho where they resided in Caldwell, and later Nampa.Sylvia enjoyed writing letters, listening to music, reading, sewing, and having the grandkids stay for sleepovers. They baked treats, had puppet shows, and built forts to sleep in while at grandma's house.Sylvia was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was active in the Relief Society for many years and loved her role as a visiting teacher.She spent endless hours, days, and years working on Genealogy, and helping others with theirs along the way. She was thrilled when the Boise Temple was built, and visited as often as she could. Sylvia and Leroy's marriage was solemnized in the Boise Temple June 17, 1989. He passed away on July 4, 1989.She always dreamed of going on a mission and her prayers were answered when she was called to serve a mission in San Diego, California from October 1991 to October 1992.Sylvia is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law: Debra (Bruce) Snavely of Greenfield, Ohio, Linda (Lon) Zeman, Sylvia (Tom) Daniel, and Daughter-in-law Joy Jensen, all of Nampa; 17 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Leroy; two sons, Rick and Ronnie; her mother and father; one sister and two brothers.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM. Saturday, May 20, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 927 Ruth Lane in Nampa. Bishop Jeffrey Milich of the Nampa 22nd Ward will officiate. A viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday, May 19 at Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N Midland Blvd in Nampa and again from 10:00 to 10:45 AM Saturday at the Church prior to the services. Interment will be in the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Caldwell.
