On December 10, 2022, Nelwyn Wood Hoagland, loving daughter, sister, and aunt returned to her Heavily Father at the age of 88.She was born on June 28, 1934 in Greenleaf, Idaho to Clyde Mackay Hoagland and Clara V. Wood Hoagland. She attended Melba Grade School for seven years and then moved to Reynolds Creek where she graduated from the eighth grade. From there she went to Melba High for two years, one year at Hunters, Washington and then back to Melba to graduate as a senior. She graduated from a business college in Portland, Oregon and worked for Dun and Bradstreet as a clerk typist until she went on her mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, to Louisianan and Texas. She served in the church library and in the Extraction Program forThe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.Nelly was very talented at crocheting and made extremely beautiful Afghans for her family. They looked better than any store-bought afghans. Nelly was an excellent bowler and won many individual and team trophies. Nelly loved hiking with her sister, nieces and nephews. But she did not like narrow trails with a steep, high drop off, and she defiantly let you and everyone around her know how she hated it. Nelly enjoyed working on the farm and loved planting a garden. Her favorite plants to grow were zucchini and tomatoes. She was always out hoeing the weeds, especially the ones Dee sprayed the day before. But her favorite thing of all was doing Sudoku and jigsaw puzzles. You could always catch Nelly doing a puzzle when you dropped by. She was an expert puzzle master. Her family members always got her the hardest puzzle they could find. Some were 3d's, 2 sided, and no sides, and many other kinds that we thought she would not be able to do. Unfortunately, we only stumped her once.Nelwyn was preceded in death by her parents; younger brother Gordon; and some nieces and nephews. She is survived by her sister, Delores; two younger brother, Mark and his wife Marie, Blaine and his wife Kate; and many nieces and nephews.
