Iris Hansen Smith

Iris Hansen Smith was born to Charles and Clara Hansen in Boise on May 28, 1934, the youngest of 8 children. She passed away peacefully in Nampa on January 29, 2022 surrounded by her family. Her older brother once told her she was spoiled. She replied, "It's not my fault." Mom said she had a wonderful childhood; which included running barefoot through the grass scaring the killdeer birds from their ground nests. She also loved climbing the willow trees in the pastures surrounding her home. There were no close neighbors her age, so her best friends were her Shetland pony and later her big horse, which she rode every day. She attended Boise schools and BYU in Provo, UT. She was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in all the auxiliary organizations, mostly as an instructor in the women's organization, Relief Society, and served in ward and stake positions. She married Roland J. Smith on Oct. 30, 1953 in the Idaho Falls, ID Temple. She and her husband served an LDS Mission in Charleston, WV. She is survived by her six children, Greg (Karen) Smith, Douglas (Pat) Smith, Charleen (Eric) Doman, Nicholas (Joan) Smith, Kenton (Vicky) Smith & Jeanette (William) Andersen, 18 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one granddaughter, her parents, three brothers and two sisters. A gathering will be held Friday, February 4 at 7 PM at the Zeyer Funeral Chapel. Graveside dedication will be on Saturday, February 5 at the Idaho State Veteran's Cemetery in Boise.
