Patricia Joyce Reece

Patricia Joyce Reece passed away peacefully Friday, April 3, 2015 with members of her family at her side in Caldwell, Idaho. Patricia was born May 16, 1933 as the only daughter of George Everett and Elizabeth Elsie Sly Eager in Ault, Colorado. She was raised in Eaton, Colorado and spent her summers in Estes Park where her father worked for Rocky Mtn. Transportation. They later moved to Idaho where she graduated from Marsing High School where she met the love of her life. They were on the High School Tennis Team together. Vernal tells of the first time he saw her this way: "A 1949 4-door Chevy pulled up to the school and a beautiful girl in a red coat stepped out. As I watched her, a very distinct voice spoke in my right ear and said; 'Someday you will marry that girl.'" Vernal Wayne Reece married Patricia on June 24, 1951 in her Uncle's garden in Eaton, Colorado. Vernal's father, Wayne Reece was a Bishop in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and performed their wedding ceremony. They considered their trip from Colorado back to Marsing as their honeymoon. Once they returned, Vernal continued to help his family with the Reece farm for a few more years. They moved a few times and raised their family of 8 children in the Idaho Treasure Valley. They were sealed for eternity February 6, 1952 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Patricia was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in the Primary & Relief Society organizations. She and Vernal enjoyed serving together in the Boise Idaho LDS Temple and in the Family History Center. She built many friendships while she worked for Weight Watchers for 20 years as a secretary and for the Caldwell School District Cafeteria for 6 years. Patricia loved to sew and was a very fine seamstress. She sewed many gifts such as Christmas pajamas and other items for each of her children. She also knitted, crocheted, quilted and scrapbooked. She would write Family Newsletters as the children grew and began families of their own, to help keep us informed with each other. Family summer vacations were frequently held in McCall where we rented 2 cabins on the shores of Payette Lake. During the winter, we would spend a day walking through the Ice Carnival exhibits. Each year we would get together for a holiday with the Wilson family. They also have a large family and we built many memories together. Vernal would raise a very large and productive family garden. Patricia loved to eat the fresh peas and would cook and preserve the many fresh vegetables and fruits he would pick and bring into her kitchen. Vernal also raises flowers, including gladiolas, so he can brighten the home with their beauty. Patricia had many wonderful experiences and was involved with her children's growing years which led to many loving years with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We have fond memories of playing "whiffle ball" or touch football in our back yard. When weather would permit, we would ride our bikes to our grandparent Reece's home. We would have girl outings to visit Patricia's mother while the boys stayed home and watched football. She will be dearly missed by her many friends, neighbors, and family, especially her husband, Vernal Wayne Reece; her sons: Noell (Sandy) Reece of Star, Idaho, Garth (Jeanne) Reece of Provo, Utah, Daryl (Deborah) Reece of Logan, Utah, Kevin (Lauri) Reece of Riverton, Utah, Scott (Angela) Reece of W. Jordan, Utah, and her daughters: Candace (William) Jenkins of Caldwell, Idaho, Twyla Reece of Caldwell, Idaho, LaDawn Reece of Boise, Idaho, along with 32 dearly loved grandchildren and 67 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her only brother, Eugene Everett Eager (who passed at the age of 23 in 1952), her parents and many Aunts and Uncles who were very dear to her! Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 7 at the LDS Church located at 4509 S. Montana Ave., Caldwell, Idaho.
