Janis L. Forbes, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed peacefully on her birthday, March 15th. She was 88. Janis was born in Los Angeles, but was raised in Hurricane UT, where her ancestors were instrumental in developing the resources of the Virgin River, and later also lived in Cedar City UT. She is survived by her children, Jody, Cindy, David A., Thayne and Eric and scores of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by a daughter Melissa and her brother Melvin, her sisters Bernice and Elaine. Janis was rescued from an ordinary life, when she met and married David B. Forbes. Together they toured the world on a far reaching journey courtesy of the U.S. Air Force. She was always proud to be the wife of an officer and a gentleman. Janis was devoted to her faith to The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints, and loved serving in many church callings. She served many times as the Relief Society president in many different locations. She also served in callings as the Young Women's president, and the Girls Camp director. She taught early morning seminary, and Gospel Doctrine for many years each. She studied the scriptures and church doctrine every day and delighted in the words of the Prophets. She was an avid gardener and spent hours caring for her yard, flowers, vegetables, and fruit trees, and then canning the produce she had grown. She also enjoyed outdoor life and camping. Her greatest achievement was being the mother of 5 happy children. She was a devoted advocate for her children, with whom she labored to help them realize their full potential. She was a dedicated help meet to her husband and fully assumed the role of the head of the house on the many occasions when Dad was deployed. She was a true soldier.
