Duane Allen

Duane Andrews Allen, age 89, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on Tuesday, September 20, 2022. He was born January 23, 1933, in Valentine, Nebraska to Clyde E. and Eletha V. Allen. The second of three children, they lived in Nebraska during his early years and later moved to Wilder, Idaho. He graduated from Wilder High School where he met the love of his life, Connie D. Thompson. They eloped to Winnemucca, Nevada, August 20, 1953, and celebrated their 62nd anniversary just before Connie passed away in 2015. They moved to Fort Campbell, Kentucky while Duane was in the 82nd Airborne Division where they were blessed by their eldest daughter, Donna. After the military they made their home in Idaho where they were blessed with Gregory, Kimberly and Tamara. Duane worked for American Linen for several years and even played on the company baseball team. He and Connie owned and operated Allen's Valley Shell in Nampa for 15 years. Shortly after that he started his career in retail with JC Penny's in Karcher Mall working in the Hardware and Sporting Goods Department, managed the Auto Service Center, and when Penny's moved to Boise he worked in the Men's Department, retiring in the mid 90's. Duane and Connie then moved back to Wilder to enjoy their retirement in their home overlooking the Snake River. He always said it was his "million-dollar view". Family always came first, and he created special relationships with each and every one. Duane is survived by children: Donna Hayes (Larry), Gregory Allen (Stacy), Kimberly Allen-Cameron (Ted) and Tamara Coombs (Jay); eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; one brother, Dale Allen; sister-in-law Norma Lou Obendorf (Larry) and numerous extended family. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Connie; his parents; and one sibling, Milo Allen. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, September 26 at Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N Midland Blvd in Nampa with a viewing at 1:00 PM prior to the services. Interment immediately following the services at the Wilder Cemetery. He was a wonderful, kind, generous and honest man. Everybody that knew him loved him. Special thanks to Journey's Hospice for their loving care and the great care at the VA Hospital in Boise.
