James "Jim" Everett McGill, 86, went to meet his Lord on December 10, 2019. He passed away from natural causes at Meadow View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Nampa, Idaho. He was born on December 18, 1932 in Richmond, Missouri, the oldest child of Loren Everett and Lucy Jane Rimmer McGill. Jim spent his childhood growing up in Missouri. He attended a one room country school until the 6th grade, when the family moved to the city. Jim completed the 9th grade of high school and then dropped out and started working. He survived being hit by a train in his car and being struck by lightning while on the job for AT&T.Jim served in the Navy and was stationed on Guam. He apprenticed with the master chef in the mess hall. Jim learned how to cook many different things for the military personnel on Guam. One morning the master chef had him come in early to fix biscuits and gravy for breakfast. He hadn't made biscuits before and thought the dough should have the texture of bread dough. After making the biscuit dough it didn't feel like bread dough so he added 50 more pounds of flour so that the dough would not be so sticky. After baking the biscuits, he discovered that even though they looked good they were hard as rocks. Jim went ahead and served them to his fellow service personnel. They got mad and started throwing the biscuits, which were like hockey pucks, back at him!He met his wife Betty on a blind date that was set up by mutual friends. They were married on August 18, 1972 and were married 47 years. Jim and Betty had two children Chad and Tonna. They spent their early married life in Missouri and in 1978 moved to Nampa. They have lived in the same house for the past 31 years.Jim worked hard at many jobs including being a carpenter, handyman, and maintenance man for the Vallivue School District. His hobbies included working outside-gardening and carpentry. Jim enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a kind, loving, generous, humorous, nurturing, easy going, gentle man.He attended Central Valley Baptist Church in Meridian, Idaho and enjoyed listening to the pastor.Jim is survived by his wife Betty Jeanne (Hobson) McGill; his children Chad Everett McGill and Tonna Jeanne (Brian) Hammer; his sister Rose (Carl) Wruck; 7 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Loren Everett McGill and Lucy Jane Chase.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, December 19, at Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N Midland Blvd in Nampa.
