Mary Louise Russell Barney, 83, passed away October 4, 2016 at Meridian, Idaho. She was born to John and Ethelyn Stevenson Russell on October 28, 1932 in Draper, Utah. After moving with her family to Idaho in 1947, Mary graduated from Kuna High School in 1950. She met Kent Gene Barney at a dance, and after his return from service in the Army, they were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on September 21, 1953. Kent and Mary farmed in Nampa until 1958 when they bought their own farm off Ten Mile Rd in Meridian. They raised their family there and were active members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in numerous callings. Mary trained to be a Quick Response Unit volunteer, attended "multitudinous" games to support her kids and grandkids, learned to can fruits and sew to bless her family, and enjoyed water skiing, snow skiing, snowmobiles, camping, fishing and hiking. She loved attending her Kuna High reunions with lifelong friends. Mary is survived by her siblings: Kenneth, Shirley Henderson and JoAnne Crowder; her six children and their spouses: Deanna and Gilbert Pond, Russel and DeEtte, Gregg and Valerie, Lee and Joan, Todd and Linda, and Michelle Slaughter. She has 24 grandchildren and 61 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings: John Randall, Rowena Parks, Gayle Smith and Loraine; her husband Kent Barney in 1996; and a grandson Keelan Pond. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, October 10 at the LDS Church, 1985 N. Black Cat Rd in Meridian, interment will follow at the Meridian Cemetery. A viewing will be held at the church Sunday evening, October 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Zeyer Funeral Chapel, Nampa. 467-7300.
