Charles Edward Hayward

Charles Edward Hayward left this earthly life on a wing and a prayer, Saturday, May 22, 2021, in Kuna, Idaho. He was born May 3,1932 in Kearney, Nebraska to Joseph Hayward and Vera Thiel Jarzenka. Upon graduating from Kearney High in 1950, Charles moved to Ogden, Utah and began his higher education at Weber College. He joined the United States Navy in 1951 and advanced to a Journalist in The Fleet All Weather Unit, Pacific Area. He was stationed in a number of places such as Hawaii, the Philippines, Washington, California and Louisiana. After leaving the Navy, he continued with his education at The University of Utah and worked a number of years as a reporter for the Salt Lake Tribune. Later, Charles moved to California and as a civilian became Managing Editor of the naval newspaper, The Masthead. Charles married Janet Sundberg in 1952, and they had nine children together before divorcing. He enjoyed writing, reading, musicals, football and boxing. One of his greatest delights was music. He entertained his children singing favorites like Who put the overalls in Mrs. Murphy's Chowder and When my baby does her double talk to me. Precedeing him in death were his parents; Joseph and Vera, his two children Charles Edward Hayward II and Michele Louise Hayward; as well as two brothers Gilbert McGill and George Hayward. He is survived by the following children: Darlene (Laszlo) Navradszky, Ann (Randy) Sparks, Rebekah (John) Barry, Joseph Hayward, Jenifer (John) Johnson, Jared (Maria) Hayward, and Patience (Cory) Atkin; and his sister JoAnn Lang; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A family gathering and memorial will be held at a later date. The family wishes to thank the staff of Swan Falls Assisted Living and First Choice Hospice for the loving care they provided to our Daddy.
