Elva Mae Rogers

Elva Mae Rogers 1932 - 2017 Melba, ID and Grand Junction, CO After a short illness and surrounded by her family our sweet Mom passed away peacefully October 12, 2017. She left us to rejoin her beloved husband Larry. She was born Elva Mae Key in Palisade, CO on April 27, 1932, the daughter of Harold F. and Christine A. (Carpenter) Key. She grew up in Mesa County, Colorado and graduated from Fruita Monument High School. She married Joseph L. (Larry) Rogers on October 22, 1951, while Larry was in the U.S. Navy. They lived in San Diego until his discharge in 1952. They moved back to Grand Junction where they started their family. Elva followed Larry to Moab/LaSal where they lived in mining camps while Larry worked in the uranium mines. In 1962 they decided to move Idaho and leave mining. Living in Melba, ID Larry became a welder and Elva began working at Melba Food Store. She had many jobs in the store and became their bookkeeper. She then spent six years working for the city of Melba as the city clerk. After the three children were raised they decided to move back to Moab, UT and then Grand Junction, CO. Mom worked at Central Distributing in Grand Junction for 18 years and retired after Larry passed away in 1997. She then spent 13 years working for The Botanical Gardens. She also spent many volunteer hours for RSVP in Grand Junction and received many awards for her service. Mom was always a hard worker with a positive attitude and everyone loved being around her. She recently moved from Grand Junction back to Melba to be near her children. She is survived by her children: Linda (Dennis) Williams, St. George, UT; Dennis Rogers, Melba, ID; Joe (Kelleen) Rogers, Melba, ID; brothers: Kenneth "Cork" (Jody) Key, Larry (Sharon) Key, Jerry (Dolly) Key, Bill (JoAnne) Key; sister Mona (Glen) Lorimar; sisters-in-law: Sherrill Key, Joan Key, Phyllis Key; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by Eddie Allen Rogers (infant son); Joseph L. Rogers (husband), mother, father, brothers: Harold, Howard, Robert; and sisters Betty and Jeannie. We would like thank Country Time Assisted Living in Star, Idaho for all the care that Mom received in the short time she lived there. No services will be held at this time. A Celebration of Life will be at a later date. Cremated remains of Mom & Dad will be placed in the Veteran's Cemetery in Grand Junction, CO.
