Dewayne Walter Coates, 85, of Nampa passed away Monday, December 25, 2017 at a local care center. He was born April 1, 1932 to William Joseph and Sarah Ellen Yoast Coates in Nampa, Idaho, in a white two-story house on First Street South, but lived his childhood at 315 17th Ave N. in Nampa, in a house that his dad built.DeWayne went to school at Lakeview, Central and Graduated from the old high school (in 1951) where the civic center is now.After graduation he joined the Air Force. He served two stints from 1951 to 1955 and 1062 to 1963. He served in Alaska, Hawaii, Mountain Home and was discharged with a medical discharge from Travis Air Force Base in California. He was a cook in the Air Force and loved it so much that after his discharge he attended Boise State-College of Culinary Science of become a better cook.Dewayne loved family and friends and family gatherings and fishing trips. He was proud that his dad had built the tower at Lake Lowell and much of the work on the lake itself.He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings. He was sealed to his parents in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He had a deep testimony of the church and a deep love of Jesus Christ.DeWayne was preceded in death by his parents William and Ellen; sister Deloris Doughty; brother-in-law Pat Doughty; nephews Ken Bort and Shawn Ostyn; nieces Susan Meyer and Kathy Griffith; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his brother Bill Coates of Nampa; sisters Imogene Newbrey of WA and her children: John, Mark, Luke, Matt, Jim, Lynn, Patience, Prudence all of WA and Jean Marie of OR and Julie of CA, and Betty Ostyn of Nampa and her sons Alan and Chris; Deloris's children: Melody, George, Wayne and Dick (known as Skip), Dianna, Kenneth and Tandi all of Texas; and aunt Norma Coates of Nampa.The family wants to thank Harrison Hope Hospice and Meadowview Nursing and Rehab. For their loving care of DeWayne these past few months.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at the LDS Chapel located at 121 N. Canyon Rd in Nampa. A viewing will be held at the church from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, January 1, and again at the church from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. prior to the services.
