Denise Searle McGary

Denise Searle McGary was born Jan. 8, 1932 along with her twin brother, Dean to parents Leo Arthur Searle and Maurine Oler Searle. Denise passed away Dec. 11, 2017 in an Ogden, Utah hospital of a stroke. The Searle family moved from Salt Lake to Shelley, Idaho when Denise and Dean were five years old. Four more brothers were added to the family: Duane, Gerald, Paul, and Lloyd. Denise grew up on a family farm, learning to work and help others. She graduated from Shelley High School in 1950. She married her sweetheart, Tad C. McGary in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple Sept. 5, 1950. Tad was drafted into the Army and soon left for training. He was sent to Korea. Denise stayed in Shelley with her parents. Five children were born to the family: Cynthia, Michael, Sheila, Kirk, and Kay. In 1979 the family moved to Utah and lived there for many years. Tad and Denise served an LDS mission to Baltimore, Maryland. They also served in the Ogden LDS Temple for three years. In 2004 Tad and Denise moved back to Idaho to live by their daughter in Nampa. Denise was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as Relief Society president, Primary president and Young Women leader. She loved the gospel and enjoyed serving in many positions. Denise was preceded in death by her husband, Tad; her parents; two brothers and two sisters-in-law; and four grandchildren. She is survived by three brothers: Duane, Paul (Karen), Lloyd (Janet); sister-in-law, Sharon (Joey) Gardner; her five children: Cynthia (Merritt) Harker, Nampa, Idaho, Michael (Julie) McGary, St. George, Utah, Sheila (Randy) Baird, Magna, Utah, Kirk (Blenda) McGary, Morgan, Utah, Kay (Lewis) Jacobs, Layton, Utah; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18 at the LDS church located at 513 South Park in Shelley, Idaho with a viewing from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Burial will follow the services at Hillcrest Cemetery in Shelley, Idaho.
