Dale H. Pitman of Nampa, Idaho passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on June 10, 2017. He is survived by his wife Merlyn Harrison Pitman; his daughter Carol Pitman Merkley; son Lance Gordon Pitman; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sons Melvin Glenn Pitman and Max Howard Pitman; and his grandson Rex Howard Pitman.Dale was born October 19, 1930 to George H. and Emily Jane Morgan Pitman in Emmett, Idaho, the eldest of six children. He grew up in Dietrich, Idaho, helping on his father's farm. After graduation he pursued his interest in auto mechanics, moving first to Ogden, Utah and then to San Jose, California. On May 24, 1957 he married Merlyn Harrison, also of Dietrich, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. The newlyweds settled in San Jose, where they raised their four children. In 1970 Dale opened Dale's Transmission and Auto Repair on Old Bayshore Highway in San Jose, and enjoyed many years of success with a good reputation for quality auto work. Dale sold his business and retired to Nampa with his wife in 2003.Dale was a lifelong active member of the LDS church, giving decades of volunteer service to other members. He spent many happy years as a Scoutmaster and Young Men's leader, and also enjoyed serving as High Priest group leader, ward clerk, counselor in the Bishopric, and on the Stake High Council. His hobbies included photography (especially weddings) and model railroading. He also loved taking his family boating, waterskiing, fishing, and camping throughout California and other western states. Short drives through the countryside were also a favorite.Services will be held at 12 noon, Friday, June 16 at the LDS chapel located at 607 W. Locust Lane in Nampa with a viewing from 11 to 11:45 a.m. prior to the services. A graveside service at Kohlerlawn Cemetery in Nampa will follow the services.
