Our Mother Dear, Shirle Pace Nielsen, 91, died in her daughter's home in Mesa, Arizona, surrounded by her four daughters on January 20, 2022.Shirle was born on October 2, 1930, in Farmington, Utah, to Marjorie Mann and Harold Lawrence Pace. She had one sister, Loan, who passed away after one week, so she grew up as an only child. She always wished that she had siblings and decided that she would have a large family. Shirle attended twelve different schools before she graduated from high school. She spent a lot of her teenage years in West Los Angeles and went to school with numerous movie stars. During World War II, she bought a war bond so that she could ride in a Jeep with the movie star & future President of the United States, Ronald Reagan.Shirle and her parents moved to Ontario, Oregon in 1947 where they lived until they took possession of their newly purchased farm on the Snake River just outside of Parma. She transferred to Parma High School the middle of her junior year and graduated in 1948. She attended nurses training for one year at St. Alphonsus in Boise, Idaho, and earned her cap and cape. Shirle also attended Brigham Young University where she received a bachelor's degree in home economics. While attending BYU, she met her future husband, Melvin Nielsen. They were married April 1, 1952. After graduating from BYU, Mel joined the Air Force and they lived in Texas and California for the next three years. Following Mel's military service, Shirle's parents invited them back to the farm in Parma, Idaho. They were excited for the opportunity to raise their children on the farm and lived there for the remainder of their lives. Shirle and Mel had nine children and Shirle was never lonely again. She was an amazing supporter of all the many activities that her children and grandchildren were involved in. She loved spending time and creating memories with family. She loved hosting the family 4th of July party and no matter how big it got, there was always room for others. She will be remembered for her beautiful yard that was always full of flowers. All of her children appreciate great food thanks to her amazing cooking. Throughout her life, Shirle served in various positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served for many years as a Cub Scout Den Mom when her boys were young and then she served in the Young Women organization when her daughters were teenagers. She was very creative and loved to plan fun activities for the youth. She also served in the Relief Society. With her husband, they served for many years in the Boise Idaho Temple. They also served a full-time mission in the Texas Lubbock mission. Shirle was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her son, Kyle. She is survived by eight children Val, Meridian, Idaho; Chad (Laurie), Parma, Idaho; Rod (Gayle), Parma, Idaho; Nanci Beus (Ray), Mesa, Arizona; Margie Solorio (Hector), Parma, Idaho; Lary (Sherri), Parma, Idaho; Lisa Laub, Parma, Idaho; Jan Miller (Kendall), Boise, Idaho; 39 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren with three more expected. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm, Saturday, January 29, 2022, at the Parma Ward Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 307 E Andrews in Parma.The family will receive friends in the Relief Society room from 1:15-2:15 pm prior to the funeral.
