Shelby Dean Spencer, 85, of Caldwell passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at a local hospital. He was born September 9, 1930 in Salina, Sevier, Utah. He was the eldest child of Myrtle Ellen Huffaker and Raymond Mormon Spencer. He spent his early years in Woodruff, Utah where he learned to work, milking cows and helping his Grandfather with his sheep, and helping his dad with the cattle, farm work and other commercial endeavors. In the fall of 1947, the Spencer family moved to Middleton, Idaho where they continued to farm and milk cows. Dean was a senior at Middleton High School and he graduated in the spring of 1948. After graduation, he continued to work at home and for local farmers until he was called to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the East Central States. He spent most of his two years in West Virginia. Upon returning home he was quickly snatched up by Uncle Sam to serve in the United States Army as an amphibious truck driver. He was honorably discharged in 1955 with the rank of specialist third class. Dean bought a farm in the Sand Hollow area and began to farm and milk cows. He married and was eternally sealed to Elva Lenore Fisk on September 4, 1956 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in Salt Lake City, Utah. They have been married for 59 _ years. Dean loved to hunt and fish and play baseball. He could never get enough of it. He was also devoted to living the Gospel of Jesus Christ and served several Ward and Stake missions. He was a weekly visitor to the Boise LDS Temple after his retirement from the farm. Although he did not farm any more, he continued to practice on a smaller scale by raising a garden, berries and fruit trees. He like to do wood working and has the scars to prove it. Dean is survived by his wife, Elva, of Sand Hollow; his three daughters: Linda Jo (Marvin) Sides, of Sand Hollow, Laurel Jean (Eric) King, of Washougal, Washington, LeAnn Fay (Greg) Morales, of San Diego, California, and his son Val Dean (Jessie) Spencer, of Delta Junction, Alaska; three brothers: Lavar of Nampa, Idaho, Deuane of Royal City, Washington, and Neal of Middleton, Idaho; 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Myrtle Spencer; his two sisters and their husbands, Donna and Bill Ward, Vernetta and Reo Hastings; his son, Randy Fisk Spencer; and grandson, Cahill King. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 1, 2016 at the New Plymouth LDS Second Ward Chapel, 521 S. Plymouth Avenue, New Plymouth, Idaho. A viewing will be held at the church from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. prior to the services. Burial will follow at the Park View Cemetery in New Plymouth, Idaho.
