Christine Esther Elizabeth Spence

Christine Esther Elizabeth Ledbetter Spence, of Nampa, was reunited in Heaven with her husband and the love of her life, Joe, on Saturday, October 30, 2021. Christine was born on June 27, 1930, in Travelers Rest, South Carolina. As a small child, her family made their way to Nampa, Idaho, where Christine lived for the remainder of her life. Christine married Joe Ervin Spence, and they had four children together. In 1956, their marriage was sealed for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After 6 years of marriage, Joe contracted polio. Overnight, Christine became the sole support of their small family, and she worked several jobs doing whatever she could to make a living. Knowing that she could not provide the support that her family would need working small jobs, Christine enrolled in school to complete her high school diploma. She attended Nampa High School during the daytime and worked in the evenings to continue supporting her family. After high school, she attended the College of Idaho on scholarship where she graduated in Elementary Education. She continued her education and eventually earned a Master's Degree from the University of Idaho. After graduating from the College of Idaho, Christine began working for the Nampa School District, where she would work for 33 years. She loved all of her students and valued education. Christine was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After retiring from teaching, Christine served a proselytizing mission for her Church in the California Sacramento Mission. She served additional service missions locally and taught Seminary at Vallivue High School. She always had a Book of Mormon on hand to share with others and was fearless in sharing her testimony of her Savior, Jesus Christ. She was passionate about family history and temple work and volunteered in her local Church Family History Center for decades. Christine was known by many as "Grandma Spence", whether related or not. Whenever someone visited, she offered any and all of her belongings. If she knew you, she loved you. Christine is survived by her four children: Marilyn (Ted - deceased) Nelson, Joe (Cindy), David (Jamie), Steve (Lori); fourteen grandchildren, forty great-grandchildren and one great-great-gandchild; and countless students. Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 6, 2021, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 121 N Canyon Street, Nampa. A viewing will be held from 10:00-10:45 AM prior to the services. Perry Zeyer is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.
