Morris A "Ace" Dyas, 87, died at his home in Nampa Wednesday, January 24, 2018. Ace was born March 7, 1930 in Nampa to Gordon Morris Dyas and Audrey Luella Caywood. He graduated from Nampa High School in 1949 and began farming with brothers Lyhn and Bill until he joined the United States Army in 1951. He was a veteran of the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1953.Ace married Mary Sue Inman, and to this union were born sons Brian and Greg. This marriage ended in 1963.In February 1966 Ace married Kathryn Miller Frisbee. Kathy had a son, John, and Ace and Kathy had one daughter, Tena.In 1966 Ace and Kathy opened a business named Nampa Canvas where they made awnings, boat covers and irrigation hoses, and Ace made the very first float tube for fly fishing. He was featured in Field and Stream magazine. Ace and Kathy sold float tubes to people all over the world. The business grew, they moved the business to Nampa-Caldwell Boulevard, and they renamed the business Nampa Canvas and Hobby.More growth came as the business moved toward craft items, another move out to Garrity Boulevard, and another name change to Hobby Center. Business was good, and a second location was opened in Boise. Ace and Kathy built the business for 25 years before turning it over to their daughter Tena who ran it for another 25 years. In 2016 Ace and Kathy celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary as well as the 50th anniversary of the business.The love of Ace's life was his family: his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. For him there was nothing better than to watch them play together, play sports and just spend time with them.Ace's other enjoyment was fishing, whether it was on the ocean or up on the south fork, and there was nothing better than fishing at Deadwood Reservoir. He always caught the big ones.Ace was preceded in death by his parents and ten siblings. He is survived by his wife Kathy; three sons: Brian Dyas of Boise, Greg Dyas and wife Kim of Nebraska, and John Frisbee and wife Michelle of Nampa; daughter Tena O'Brien and husband Aaron of Nampa; grandsons Jacob O'Brien of Nampa and Loren Dyas and wife Yentle of Nebraska; granddaughters: Annie Dyas of Boise, April Christensen and husband Colby of Nebraska, Lindsay Bernier and husband Nathan of Notus, McKenzie Berg and husband Trevor of Nampa, Ashley O'Brien of Nampa and Mariah Frisbee of Nampa; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter; brothers: Marland Dyas and wife Carolyn of Oregon, Don Dyas and wife Maria of Washington, Gordon Dyas and wife Sylvia of Meridian and Bob Davenport and wife Sue of Melba; sister Gordena Sampedro and husband Charles of Montana; and many nieces and nephews.He will be missed by many.Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the LDS Kuna 4th Ward Mission Fund.
