Geraldine Tovey Winter

Geraldine Tovey Winter passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on Thursday, October 28th, 2021 at Meridian Meadows Care Center. Geraldine was born on January 2nd, 1930, in her grandparent's home near Malad City, Idaho. She was the oldest child of Charles Francis Tovey and Hulda Price Tovey. She attended school in Malad, Pocatello, and Salt Lake City before moving to Nampa Idaho at age 10. She graduated from Nampa High School in 1948. She attended BYU as a vocal performance major until her marriage to William F. Winter on July 9th, 1950. They were blessed with 4 children; Linda, Stephanie, Billy, and JoAnna. They were later sealed with their children in the Ogden Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on August 31st, 1973. Gerry's family was from a Welsh background and had a love for music that she carried on from an early age. Her music lessons began at age 5 on the accordion and transferred to the piano at age 12. She began vocal studies during high school and was a vocal soloist for many funerals, weddings, religious services and community organizations. She and her husband owned Peebles Winter Music Co. At their business Gerry taught Merryland Musical Kindergarten as well as piano, accordion, and vocal lessons. They passed on their love of music to all of their children and grandchildren, as well as many in the community they served. Gerry was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Greenhill Ward in Meridian. Gerry was a service-oriented woman, who was generous with her time and participated in many organizations in a selfless capacity, including her local congregation. She was also a charter member of Nampa Musicale, Nampa Musettes, co-president of Nampa Civic Center Auxiliary, and served in many leadership positions in community and church organizations. She was preceded in death by her husband William F. Winter, her parents, her sister Jeanette Constable Varnadoe, and brother Charles Duane Tovey. She is survived by her 4 children and their spouses--Linda and Doug Holmes, Stephanie and Jeff Ramage, Bill and Julie Winter and JoAnna and Kevin Blaylock--15 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. Services are under the direction of Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N. Midland Boulevard, Nampa, Idaho. A viewing will be held on Saturday, November 6th from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Her funeral will be directly after the viewing at 4 p.m.
