Doris Fay Mace

Doris Mace, 92, of Meridian Idaho, passed away at home on Monday, October 4, 2021 of natural causes surrounded by her family. Doris was born September 5th, 1929 at her Aunt Ruth Colvards home in Caldwell to the proud parents of Ray and Fern (Myers) Trunnell of Notus, Idaho. Doris was the oldest of four children, followed by Dorothy (Dot), Robert (Bob), and Wayne. Doris was baptized at age 13 at the First Christian Church in Caldwell. Doris grew up in Notus and graduated high school in 1947. She was the editor of the school paper, the principal's office assistant, homecoming queen, carnival queen, cheerleader her Jr. and Sr. years and represented Notus High at the Football Potato Bowl in Nampa. Doris met Verlan Mace at the Wilder football jamboree and dance in October 1946. Verlan later called the high school and asked her on a date. After high school, she moved to Boise and worked for an insurance company and went to Grimms School of Business. She then worked for the Veterans Administration for 5 years. Doris and Verlan were married in June 1948. They built their home on the Mace family farm on Eagle Island and in later years had a second cattle ranch in Indian Valley. They had their first daughter, Jan Marie in 1952, followed by a daughter, Carla Fay in 1954, and a son, Rodney Arthur in 1956. Doris started playing golf in 1959 at the age of 29 at Plantation Golf Club and won many trophies over the years. She had a hole in one at Eagle Hills Golf Course. She modeled for Brookovers and The Mode LTD at the Plantation for 10 yrs. She belonged to a womens canasta club of Eagle for over 30 years. Doris and Verlan became Boise State season ticket holders in 1948 and never missed a home game in over 50 yrs. Later in life she reconnected with an old boy friend from Priest River, Idaho, Frankie Naccarato. They enjoyed happy years together until his passing in 2000. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Verlan, and her sister Dot. She is survived by her two brothers, Bob of Caldwell and Wayne of Las Vegas; children, Jan Sherfick (Rod) of Kamiah, Idaho, Carla Mace of Meridian, and Rod Mace (Shirley) of Meridian; grandsons, Roy Brewer (Laura) of Zephyr Cove, NV and Ryan Beattie (Christie) of Boise; 4 great grandson, James and Henry Beattie, Macen and Owen Brewer; and a special cousin she referred to as her grandson, Alex Zanders (Briannah). A graveside service will be held at 2 PM, Thursday, Oct 7, at Lower Boise Cemetery, 26750 Powers Road, Parma, Idaho.
