Helen Marie Means- Proctor passed away on December 29, 2021, of natural causes. She was 92 years old. Helen was born on July 12, 1929, in Burley, Idaho to Milo T. and Della Palmer Means. When she was 6 weeks old her family moved to Boise, Idaho. Helen grew up in Boise, attended Boise Public Schools and graduated from Boise High School. She was active in Girl Scouts and an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She attended the University of Idaho and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Dietetics. While at the U of I, she was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. Following graduation, she attended the University of Chicago to complete her dietetic internship. After finishing her internship, she worked in the Juvenile Diabetes clinic at the U of C hospitals. While in Chicago, she met Harold Donaldson Proctor. After their courtship, they were married on August 29, 1953. Helen continued to work at the U of C hospitals until 1955 at which time she and Harold moved to Portland, Oregon. In 1956 they moved to Salem, Oregon and lived there for over 50 years. Helen worked as the dietitian at Salem General Hospital from 1958-1963. In 1963 she moved to Fairview Hospital and Training Center as food service manager and lead dietitian until retiring in 1991. Helen lived in Salem until 2007, when she moved to Kuna, Idaho to live closer to her daughter Susan.Helen was preceded in death by her parents Milo and Della Means; husband Harold Proctor; and granddaughter Sarah Beth Hoiland. She is survived by daughter Susan Hoiland (Doug), Harold "Alex" Proctor (Leslie); grandchildren: Katie Boggess (Matthew), Kellie Hoiland (Jared), Andrew Hoiland (Ashleigh), Matthew Hoiland and Michael Hoiland and 7 great grandchildren.Funeral Services will be held at 3 PM, Friday, January 7, 2022 at Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N Midland Blvd with a viewing at 2 PM prior to the services.
